GIVING DAY 2023
Y’all might be proven correct.
But I don’t want to jump to conclusions. Perhaps he was contacted and he’s doing his due diligence.
I mean.. 2 very reputable Tennessee beat reporters are saying he’s the front runner. I’d say the deal is 90-95% done.

English is only 32 years. He’s going to be raw.

If the rumors are true, I hope English assembles a seasoned staff, similar to Juan Howard hiring Martelli at Michigan.

I know mason can’t afford that kind of assistant. But perhaps a previous low major head coach would be a good addition.

Guess how old Shaka Smart was when he took over vcu? I bet you can't...

I don't necessarily think it's the age, it's when you started and how long you've done it. English started as an assistant at Tulsa in 2015. He's got 6 years of coaching experience at Tulsa, Colorado, and now Tennessee. I think he's ready.

And Shaka had Rhoades on the bench with him with 10 years of HC experience at Randolph Macon.

Hell of a staff by the way. Will Wade, Mike Rhoades, and Mike Jones.

Fun fact I just discovered:
During Shakas tenure at vcu, he had 7 different assistant coaches. Of those 7, 6 are current D1 Head Coaches.

Shaka already had 10 years of coaching experience before his first HC job. And you’re proving my point. Shaka hired Mike Rhoades who had HC experience at Randolph Macon.

English could be a home run! I’m excited for a change.

Don’t bash me because I’m not a blind homer.

No. Just going to give him the benefit of the doubt and keep an open mind. It’s like I everyone trashing our recruits before they come to campus (ahem Tyler Kolek, ahem Josh Oduro). No reason to be all negative before he’s even hired (might not be).
And for the record I’m all for English. I’m
excited. I just hope a 32 year-old coach brings in some seasoned assistants. I think that’s a completely reasonable take

Same old Barnes today. This loss is on him. He can have winning seasons and that is all he wants to do. He has the ability to underachieve and has just about everywhere he has been. He has always gotten out the door for another job just before being told to leave other than Texas which fired him before he could get another school lined up. Tennessee should have let him go to UCLA without requiring a buyout. The wheels came off this wagon in January and were never put back on. That's on him. He has a guard oriented team that doesn't shoot the ball well from the outside; gets too far into the shot clock and then either has to drive the lane where the opponent is waiting or hurry up a shot from the outside. No go-to player like Schofield/Williams were when the team really needed a bucket! Send him to George Mason, where he was for one year and give the job to English!

AND...

Why not? Barnes should be fired. There is a reason Texas got rid if Barnes. Its called March Madness Failure. Barnes is not going to run a new offense, he just runs this terrible slow half court pass the ball until 22 seconds left & then shoot offense. He will not adjust his offense or coaching style to reach his players max potential.

Hill has a ton of experience as an assistant, and Cole has 5 seasons as a private school HC. I'm cool with Lamar being on staff in some form, whether that be assistant coach or Director of Player Development.

Yup. The "???" was for the third assistant. No good guesses on that one. Could be Lamar. Could be keeping an existing assistant. Could be Joey Freaking Rodriguez.
