I predict vcu will go after Alan Huss (HPU) and then maybe Mike Morrell (UNCA) or Bucky McMillian (Samford).

Huss would be an incredible hire for them. It is a good time to be hiring a coach. Not a lot of big jobs open but a lot of proven coaches ready to move up from low major to mid major.

EDIT: adding Arkansas State's Bryan Hodgson to list of potential vcu candidates.

"Fordham hasn't been to the NCAA tournament since 1992, but the Rams will have a men's basketball budget that ranks in the top third in the Atlantic 10 and are expected to be competitive moving forward in the revenue-share era."

Where do we stand?

"The 36-year-old Geriot was in his 10th season as an NBA assistant, nine years with the Cleveland Cavaliers and one with the Pelicans.

He played at Richmond from 2006-11 and began his coaching career as an assistant at Princeton and Campbell.

The Gaels finished this season 17-17 and reached the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game. They were 16-17 in Anderson's first season."

Some vcu fans want Eric Maynor as HC. He currently is a assistant at the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Right in the middle. But I will say that a lot of the difference in spending between us and say SLU is how much their coach makes.

If Skinn and the assistants keep winning and getting raises, we will be in the top 5 in spending pretty quick.

Also, NY is just expensive.

I heard Villanova is very interested in Kevin Willard… not good for Mason fans…

He was pretty blunt today about some issues he's had with Maryland. Hopefully he's just trying to use leverage to get better resource commitments.

vcu wants to follow Mason's lead, hiring an alum?

I say, "Go ahead." Hire an NBA assistant who has no current NCAA coaching and management experience (something Tony, as an assistant, had in spades before his hire here).
Willard’s starting 5 is as good as it’s gets. They are going to make a deep run.

Question for GS and the rest of the board: If you were offered both the UVA and Villanova jobs, which one would you take?

Tough call, but before and after Jay Wright Nova is and was different. Basketball is king at UVA, its the thing the donor base cares the most about. Its also likely that UVA ends up in the SEC in the inevitable blow up of the ACC. I'd give the nod to UVA, but its close.

I have the exact opposite take. Villanova is in the Big East and since they don't have football in the conference, the Big East is slated to become the premier basketball conference under revenue share. Villanova does have an FBS team (they have FCS in CAA), so they, presumably, will not dump nearly as much into their football. UVA has FBS football and will have to dump a ton of resources in that to keep it relevant. If they didn't why would they even be in consideration for the SEC?

On the Jay Wright, before and after, while true, I don't see that as relevant given the sea change with revenue share. It will be more about resources (revenue share and NIL) and I think Villanova is much better positioned than UVA with that in mind.
