Having lived the past 20 years in Va. Beach, and having a neighbor who is an alum of ODU, and having attended several ODU football games, I am a full supporter of football at Mason. Even though ODU had (and I mean HAD) a good basketball team, nothing has galvantized the local area like football. ODU T-shirts and stuff are now carried in Wal-Mart and Target. I've seen more ODU apparel on the streets in the last five years then in the previous 15.
I will lend a credence to this. I know folks down there with no ties to the school, but have been following the team and just so happened their wives are posting pics and updates on Facebook right now about being at this event. So done correctly..with money, support, etc......football can be a great way into the community....
Women ages 16 and up are cordially invited to join ODU head football coach Bobby Wilder, his wife Pam, and the assistant coaches and their wives for an evening of x's and o's, wine and fashion on Saturday, July 26 from 3-8 p.m. The event will begin at the L.R. Hill Complex where the football offices and team locker room are located, and will conclude at S. B. Ballard Stadium.
"Our coaching staff is looking forward to working with the ladies of Old Dominion football on July 26! This will be a fun-filled event that will involve our staff working directly with them on all aspects of the game," ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder said. "They will get to see what our players experience from the off the field preparation to the on field drill work and game preparation. They will also get the game day experience our players have at S.B. Ballard Stadium!"
Old Dominion Football Ladies Night features a Football 101 rules session from an FBS official, equipment demonstration, a tour of the football facilities and locker room, and a skills session with Coach Wilder, his staff and players. The event will be capped by a Wine Tasting reception, Q&A with the coaches and spouses, and a fashion show at S.B. Ballard Stadium, featuring the latest in Monarch game-day apparel.
Participants will receive a replica ODU jersey, a tote bag filled with goodies, photo ops with the coaching staff, and have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction. Participants will be offered the opportunity to reunite at a tailgate at one of the home football games this fall and receive a gameday experience on the field prior to kickoff.
Registration is $50 and proceeds from the event will assist the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation . The clinic is limited to the first 300 registrants, so act quickly. For more information on the clinic, or to register, click
