The location doesn't work for the A10 and the arena is smallish, but Asheville is a great place for a conference tournament. The SoCon tournament is held there and a good time is had by all. Great restaurants, fun city to walk, great atmosphere all around.

Id rather spend the $15 and live. Amtrak derails too much for me.

Wow, the top teams in our league are very good. We are solid middle of the pack right now, but still need a good jump to compete for an A10 championship next year.

The point of this post is mainly that the top teams are impressive. These Saturday games are at another level.

Infrastructure and crowd size are two separate things.

OK, well, if you can't draw then I would think about it before belittling urban campuses with much smaller enrollments for not having bigger gymnasiums.

Some numbers for context for St. Bonaventure:

2013: 3,928 per game
2017: 4,123

It looks like those numbers are fairly consistent over the last 10 years with a low of about 3,500 and 4,100 and change being the height.

Capacity: 5,480

Much better look than Patriot Center.

There’s a difference between saying somewhere is a poor facility because of capacity vs. saying somewhere is a poor facility because it has pull out wooden bleachers and a high school scoreboard on the wall. Hence why people shit on La Salle’s place and not Duquesne’s.

People always forget about this when they want to reduce EBA’s capacity by 25%
From what I recall in a newspaper article a few years back, EBA is one of the highest grossing stadiums in its class for the entire nation. Just because Mason can't get butts into seats for basketball on a consistent basis doesn't equate to eliminating seating capacity for facility improvements or better game-day atmosphere. I'll go for the residual income from events other than basketball any time.

I ll go for creating a better, more advantagous, high quality game atmosphere that produces wins, and thus tourney bids. Tourney bids help the school way more than the circus coming to town.

Overall, they should build a bigger arena down on shirleygate. 12k-15k. And shrink eba.

Quite a few concerts come to EBA yearly.

Yea I know, but does that equal or can it have potential to generate exposure and/or benefits to the school like a NCAA TOurney bid does? In other words, the net income from the rental is what? Vs the net benefit from consistent tourney appearances. Home court advantage helps you get in the dance. Problem is we have sorry fan base. But not so much if arena is upgraded. Anyway, I think one ncaa tournament game equals the net income from rentals at eba 270k??? Probably way off but someone can look it up. Pablo!!!

Each NCAA tourney game earns you in that neighborhood, then it’s divided up by the conference. The A10 is a 75/25 split. So mason would earn just north of 200k per NCAA game. A deep tournament run would bring in a million, which is nice but not an insane amount by any stretch. Factor in extra travel, lodging, food, etc and I’ve read that teams often times end up in the red, especially if their coach has incentives in his contract. The money comes from the donations success brings, as well as the exposure.

I’d love to see a breakdown on the money exposure brings. I’d imagine a final four run does much more for us than it does for a UNC or Duke.

A-10 should get three teams in, now.

Dan Hurley is still smiling, even after the loss. Probably because of the paycheck he's going to receive (most likely from another school.)
