vcu was in the Top 25 in the early season and is now losing to bottom feeders. I generally root for the conference, but I do enjoy seeing vcu fail

We have URI (currently in), Dayton (locked in), and Richmond (bubble) all doing fine repping the A-10. SLU and Duquesne can be your dark horses in the tournament to steal a bid.

Watch, vcu figures out whatever it is that ills them and wins the conference tourney.

Dayton by 24 at home over Davidson on ESPN2. Obi with back to back spectacular dunks. Under 12 time out.

After scoring 62 against us, they already have 61 and are shooting around 65-70% from the field.

Dickie V on the call and they'll have Game Day there next weekend.

What we need-

Richmond to beat Dayton in Brooklyn. that should get them in (assuming no bad losses along the way)
URI is in
Dayton is in
a random team to win the conference tournament

4 bids

If Richmond finishes third, they won't meet Dayton until the finals, though. So, we need Richmond to drop to 4th? St. Bonaventure is within striking distance of 3rd (1 game back with @La Salle, St. Joes and @SLU). Richmond has UMass, Davidson, @Duquense -- if Bona wins out and Richmond loses one they'd be tied and Bona would own the head-to-head tiebreaker and your scenario sets up nicely.

With URI's to SLU, the conference really needs URI to take advantage of Dayton being a top 5 team and beat the Flyers.

Just throwing this out there for sake of discussion.

Is the conference really “better” this year? There’s a real possibility that we only get one bid. URI is rending down and Richmond is hanging on by a thread trying to avoid a bad loss because they don’t have enough solid wins.

With Davidson and vcu down this year I’d argue it’s not much better (I know the number say different becaus of Dayton and better ooc performance). Bona and Duquesne are still sniffing at the 4 seed without any really impressive wins, which imo shouldn’t be happening if the conference really was as good as we thought it’d be.

If Mason was a halfway competent team like last year we’d be in the mix as well.

Yes, the conference is better. The only reason we got two teams in last year is because vcu (which was a much weaker team than Dayton this season) lost to URI and then St. Louis (which was a much weaker team than this season won the auto-bid). St. Bonaventure was also the 4th seed last year at 12-6. Mason was the 5 seed and were 153 in Kenpom.

This season, we have 7 teams in the top 100, last year we had 3.

It’s a mixture of a strong A10 with CBB as a whole in a down year.

The quality of teams is much different and improved in the A10. Even the lower middle of the pack teams are decent teams (like vcu, even though they have slid a lot).

I think Mason suffered from a lot of things this year (youth, depth, injuries some coaching) and just about everything that went wrong could go wrong. They somehow weathered the storm last year but it was just too much for them this year, for whatever reason (s).

Frustrating to say the least, but all we can hope for is improvement and turnaround.
