Totally random and apologize if this has been covered elsewhere on the boards-
why don't the Wizards have a D League team? would putting one at EBA incent Ted to invest in more upgrades to EBA since his company already manages the building? Or help build a new one??

Chicago and Dallas have their D League team in the 'burbs and the 76ers' team plays at the Bob at U Delaware so there is precedent for being close and at a college arena.

Great idea! Direct in sport, in season competitor that consumes date availability in an already crowded venue.

The Wizards will likely have a D-League team soon. It is expected to begin play in 2018 at the 5,000-seat facility being built in Southeast DC, which will also serve as the Wizards new practice facility and the new home court of the Mystics.

Some random findings today while reading Brad's April notes to the faculty senate:

-We are transitioning our competitive cheer squad to a sideline squad. Twenty percent of our concussions this year are from competitive cheer. The NCAA does not allow stunts during games. We also do not receive title IX credit for it. Dance will no longer compete either, runs a $25k deficit. Will continue to invest money in their equipment since they are vital part of game atmosphere. Students will still get some benefits like being able to pre-register.

-Continue to work on basketball improvement for facilities to include phase one of renovation of cage gym and men’s and women’s basketball locker rooms in EagleBank arena. Will cost $2.2 million. There was a small protest by a student and we held a town hall with university life and Rec. R. Pascarelle suggested conducting a broader town hall.

-Also will upgrade arena lighting and looking at adding video panels to the scoreboard as part of Learfield contract.

Interesting!

Interesting!

I knew when the NCAA ruled that cheerleading wasn't a sport that athletics departments would shed them.

I also see he's going to get rid of yet another offseason talking point on the boards -- video scoreboard.

The real kicker will be the announcement of the football team and the athletics hall of fame, masonhoops might just crash :chuckle:

All great news! Ok, now we are going to have to get ready to find new things to complain about!

I'd really like to complain about your avatar. You've already married the lovely woman, knocked her up and had a baby together, so let's document this beautiful story with an updated photo!

Saw today that Learfield is expanding their staff at Mason. That's a very good sign.

What does this mean exactly? Gobo got a raise and or will someone finally do the games with him?

I remember when Joe proposed during the game... that was awesome. But if they were true fans, they would've also delivered their baby at half court during homecoming.

Well it's not a sport. It's an athletic competition, but not a sport. I know the "well you can't do it" argument. Well, I can't speak Hungarian. Is that a sport?

Learfield has been operating at Mason with 1 full-time person for quite some time now. This full time sales person is in charge of managing the relationship between the University and Learfield, performing administrative duties for Learfield (reports, forecasting, paying contractors, handling production for radio/print/signage, paying invoices, etc.) while also spearheading the corporate partner sales efforts, which means revenue generation. By comparison, the University of Richmond (who is an IMG property) operates with 2 full time staff, and vcu (Learfield) operates with 4/5 full timers.

By "Gobo" I am assuming you mean Bill Rohland? Bill is a hired contractor who gets paid by Learfield to broadcast the games. He is not considered a full time part of the staff.

This move means 2 things:

1. The corporate partner base has grown large enough that it requires additional help for service/fulfillment.

2. There is an increased effort to build the partner base even more, so they are bringing someone else in to double the volume of outreach. This new person will be able to focus almost exclusively on sales.

When Brad says that they will be adding video panels to the scoreboard as part of their Learfield agreement, that most likely means that Learfield is going to either help pay for it, or pay for it in full.

Good info. for this quote specifically, "looking at" means its 50-50 at best and "adding" doesn't equate to a new board. So lets remember not to all freak out come November if we have the exact same scoreboard we had last year.

FWIW I heard this rumor about midseason and I also heard that it was being looked at for 2018-2019, so we might have one more year of complaining about lack of video.
