I had this crazy idea. Mason should provide low loan interest loans to student entrepreneurs to start local businesses in fairfax. They should have a few parameters. One being the store should have a plan in place in promote school pride.

I'm thinking this as like a compitition type thing. Students submit their proposals and a board decided on one or two projects to fund.

That is stupid. Is UMass also independent?

They are.

Current independents: Army, Notre Dame (sort of), BYU, and UMass.

Is Liberty going to be an independent school? How did they convince the NCAA to allow them to move up without a conference invitation?

I don't know what the bid consists of, but that's what it was. I thought that it was low too. Most were in the $500,000 range with one being over $1 mil.

That seems like a pretty unusual gap. 500k on a max of 1 million seems odd.

If my experience in contracting is any guide whatsoever, Mason should go with the 1 million dollar bid. Everytime I see a broad spread in bids, it ends up being one company who actually knows what they're doing, and what it will take, and so bids to the actual cost, and a bunch of fly by nights trying to come in low, only to come back halfway through delivery with hats in hand saying "unexpected problems, blah blah blah, we need more money or we won't be able to complete the project"

Only correction to your post is that the low bidders are the ones that know what they are doing... Dishonest, but they know what they are doing.

...sadly, now that I think about it, this is absolutely the truth.

Totally random and apologize if this has been covered elsewhere on the boards-
why don't the Wizards have a D League team? would putting one at EBA incent Ted to invest in more upgrades to EBA since his company already manages the building? Or help build a new one??

Chicago and Dallas have their D League team in the 'burbs and the 76ers' team plays at the Bob at U Delaware so there is precedent for being close and at a college arena.

Those crowds are pretty small. Not sure what the profit margin is but they wouldn't pull anything other than what Mason does in terms of attendance. Not sure if he would help build a new 10,000 seat arena if his team was only pulling 2,000 a game.

EBA is too busy of a venue to host a minor league team.
