I really doubt he will get his asking price of 1 million. So, maybe.

i have no idea of the stats of players who enter the portal then return
but
1) entering the portal means that the player gives up his scholarship
2) if Haynes doesn't get $1M, can he get $750k or $500k from another school?
3) What was GMU's best offer?
4) can he get a large NIL offer that also guarantees a starting position?
5) will he take a large NIL offer and come off the bench?
and after all of that
6) will his pride allow him to come back to GMU for less than $1M, assuming he left on good terms with the coaching staff

He didn't make his Mason Nation break up letter public, so it does seem like he might have left the door open for the possibility of returning.
For someone in Hayne's position (we obviously want him back, he obviously has potential high major suitors, and there is no known dissatisfaction with Mason on his part) who enters the portal - I would just consider them an unrestricted free agent.
He is testing the market, as he should, and it will be up to the "general manager" to decide if bringing him back at a mutually agreeable price will be best.
My personal expectation is hope he returns, but not exactly expecting it.

Who is Mason's GM?
Do we know if Haynes has taken any visits? Clearly, we know about the players who visited here. Not likely to be that big of a secret.
No idea what the total numbers are. I suspect every transfer is a case by case fact pattern anyway.
We do know last season Gibson Jimerson and Max Shulga went into the portal and came back. For Jimerson, he was getting a new coach. Shulga seemed to be testing the market.
Two seasons ago it was Yuri Collins.

I don’t think we’ll know for sure until/unless Mason signs a starting-caliber 5. All due respect to Gio, can’t see Tony going into next season with him as the starter.
Is it bad that I not so secretly hope that Gio goes a-portaling? I like him, just don't see his fit here.
