This kind of power and freedom would be taken away the second these players actually were made employees and are under a formal contract.
Also, right now, any kind of restrictions the NCAA tries to put on player movement and transfers would most likely be challenged and struck down by the courts.
I keep coming back to "where are we...student athletes or employees" or both?
If they are getting paid....then they are employees...prob don't need scholarships?
If they are students.....does student athlete John Smith face any consequence of say going to Mason year 1 and fail all his classes, but get to transfer for year 2 to Providence and get a clean slate? Wouldn't happen for a regular student, and so does the NCAA care?
Does the NCAA need to look at grades and grad rates anymore if they are just employees/free agents?
Just so may problems other than NIL and transfer rules ...
