The staff wants 3 bigs. They started with 3 last season and then Nico left. Haynes and Emejuru aren’t known as great post defenders, so adding depth that excels around the rim makes sense.

Also, Haynes might spend some time at the 4.
surprised Skinn and Co didn’t play Haynes once the NCAA changed its ruling especially after Nico left.

I hope I’m misreading the room, especially cause he just looks so good!

We've gone through this a bunch, right? It seems there were still eligibility issues for one reason or another.

I hope things get resolved this year. Sorry for being so pessimistic, everyone. I’m just so used to Mason disappointing me that it’s become a defense mechanism.

Hilarious weekend. After poker me and a couple friends went through some portal names and called up some that list their numbers publicly.

Said we were assistant coaches from various programs. Only slip up I had after a few gin and tonics was forgetting Caputo wasn't an assistant anymore and having to abort mid-call.

Recommend this game highly for endless humor at the expense of others

Looks like he was 3d or 4th string center at EMU behind some guys with more bulk vs his thin 210 lb, 6' 10" frame.
Here's some numbers when he came out of High School:

Don’t know where else to post this.

The junkies interviewed the Author of The Pipeline to the Pros, How D3, Small-College Nobodies Rose to Rule the NBA.

Anyone else read it? I can’t wait to read/listen to the audiobook.

Overview
Jeff Van Gundy. Brad Stevens. Frank Vogel. Mike Budenholzer. Tom Thibodeau. Sam Presti. Leon Rose. Before you knew his name, before he drafted your favorite player, before he guided your team to a championship, he had a playing career of his own at an NCAA Division III college. He didn’t play for fortune – the NBA was out of reach, and his school didn’t even give athletic scholarships. He didn’t play for fame – his games weren’t televised, and the stands were rarely full. Whatever the motivation, he simply couldn’t give up the game of basketball.

Depth and project piece. That’s really all we need from this last big. We aren’t pulling anyone who will be pushing for minutes with Haynes coming back and us bringing in the big guy from Siena. Any production we get out of this last scholarship is just gravy.

Ditto - we can’t expect someone with much more established production to come and be the last guy off the bench

It's very good. There are a couple of Williams College grads profiled (Rafael Stone, GM of the Rockets and Will Hardy, HC of the Jazz) along with Duncan Robinson who played his freshman season at Williams before transferring to Michigan.

The plan all along was for him not to play last season. They had a clear cut plan the whole time. Likely a big part of why they were able to land him in the first place and yes I think he’s going to be good.

Correct, 5 fouls and some energy and maybe some defense would be nice. Any offensive ability would just be a plus.

From the GWU Hoops Board - I have not verified this, but it seems accurate

"As of this past Saturday, 41.5% of D1 and D2 basketball transfers remain in the portal, uncommitted. Talk about being careful what you wish for. "
This information should be mandatory for anyone VOLUNTARILY entering the transfer portal. The best players will get picked up and have a roster slot -somewhere. Also important is how many players are able to move up - in terms of competition and how many move to a lower level.

But this data seems to indicate that some players are not as good as they think they are and maybe should have some type of review/analysis of their skill level and value before entering the portal. I also suspect that some of it is ego driven.

More importantly in the long run - how many will not get their college degrees and will have no meaningful chances at a good career post their basketball playing days??

I’d love to know where those numbers came from, but you can’t blame it all on the players. Coaches are changing schools with increasing frequency too. They push guys out when convenient. We are still dealing with an influx in player eligibility due to covid without an increase in scholarships too.

Furthermore, is this even relevant at our level? How many George Mason transfers couldn’t find a scholarship somewhere?

that is why is said Voluntarily

how many GMU transfers went to programs in conferences better than the A-10? or worse than the A-10?
or
how many went to teams better than GMU? or worse than GMU?

if this is accurate - about 23% of those who entered the portal are currently without programs - and i believe the 1089 transfer number is low
but it may only include D1
