I don’t think DP expected to be fired this year. He may still be processing all this and that’s maybe why no statement has been made yet.

I can agree with that. It did catch many folks by surprise.

That said, I wouldn't expect him to make a statement like this. Just doesn't seem like his type of personality. Someone would have to look and see if he did one when he left Bucknell.

https://bucknellian.net/53073/sports/paulsen-leaves-university-for-george-mason/:

"Paulsen did not respond to The Bucknellian’s request for a statement, but told Athletic Communications that he has 'incredibly mixed feelings' about leaving.

'I am very excited about the opportunity at George Mason, but at the same time I have had a very difficult time telling the team that I was leaving. I have been so blessed to coach these student-athletes at Bucknell, and I was really looking forward to next season with such a great nucleus coming back,' Paulsen told Athletic Communications."

This is a loss for DP. He can't blame the players now so he isn't going to speak. Would be nice to put something out taking responsibility, but I doubt it.

I believed Paulsen was a nice guy, regardless of how I felt about his coaching and recruiting skills. Going silent is not what I expected but given that it was likely a unexpected move a year early, there may be hard feelings.

If this was sudden and unexpected - the man is going through a roller coaster of emotions right now. Probably tough to speak right away.
Her has a family and obligations. He now has to find a new job. Not a fun experience.

He chose this profession. He got paid. We the fans, have been jerked around for 6 years. He will have to get over it.

I concur - its a performance based world. But that doesn't change the impact this experience will have on someone. I have had to let people go and there were reasons for it - but it was never fun and I always could empathize with the position they would be in.

Exactly. He talked about wanting to be at a school with "Expectations" and wanting a "challenge".

As much as he may have been surprised on timing, he shouldn't be surprised that he didn't meet expectations or the challenge of the A10. It is a tough league and its not for everyone.

There’s an old saying in sports that “coaches are hired to be fired” and in most cases that is true. It’s a zero sum game and very very few get out of it on their own terms.

Even though it's in relation to the NFL, Tom Coughlin's quote at his resignation press conference is still relevant to any NCAA or professional level coaching.

"When we win, WE win. When we lose, I Lose." - Tom Coughlin

"It sounds like Fordham has met with as many as 18 candidates via a combination of Zoom and on campus interviews. Some sources have told me that Bryant’s Jared Grasso is no longer a candidate. I’ve also heard that Fordham may break the bank for someone like Yale’s James Jones. More on this one as I hear it."
