Lol you guys are crazy. It's been 2 years since he left. You know kids grow and get better. I look forward to watching him play.

It all come full circle. Good for him getting a shot.

I know he wasn’t great but I never understood why we pushed him out, especially in hindsight.

This is where the roster management at the 5 went down hill. Instead of having a tall body to throw in until we found better pieces that could prove to play over him, we got nothing.

I think the staff was under the belief that Daniel Relvao was the better player of the two. Problem was Dixon left and then a few weeks before the season started Relvao decided he missed his girlfriend too much and had to go home... really caught the staff with their pants down that year. Just my guess.

So I'm clear, Relvao wanted his pants down so much that in doing so, he also caused the staff to have their pants down too?

Relvao left literally right before the season didn’t he?

Relying on Relvao after a couple years of knee issues = YIKES

Dave has botched the center position since he got here. Who cares though...basketball is positionless now.

F it, lock in Woods!

I don’t think that was necessarily the plan. They lost 3 bigs to transfer that offseason. I’m sure Paulsen was hoping at least one of them would stick around and pan out, but Dixon was mostly a stiff, Temara was a spaz, and Relvao was homesick.

We got Calixte out of all the turmoil, so it’s not all bad. But it would have been nice to have another body on the roster, for sure, even if they only played 8mpg.

The way I see the potential roster breakdown: if you consider Miller and Mar your 4; and Calixte, AJ, and Oduro your 5...

PG Hartwell, Xavier*
SG Greene, JDS, (Woods?)*
SF Kier, Boyd, Haidara
PF Miller, Mar
C Calixte, AJ, Oduro**

*It’s possible Kier or Greene start at point guard which moves the wings around a little bit, especially if you think Paulsen wants Miller and Mar on the floor together (like I do).

** Center looks to be the weakest link by far in this scenario. We have to hope AJ improves massively and Oduro is a lot better than we are expecting. But overall the roster breakdown makes sense otherwise.

There’s nothing to disagree with here but Paulsen has started freshmen from the jump before and I kinda see Xavier as that guy, maybe not immediately but he’s the PG of the future. I like Hartwell, they will find time on the court together but from what I saw from Xavier in the private school playoffs....I BELIEVE.

and Vermont gets former 4 star center Daniel Giddens to transfer in.... dude is 6 foot 11 and exactly what we needed... but the experts said those didn't exist... they are out there just none consider Mason

Given that we haven’t been attached to any transfer bigs at all, I think we can assume Paulsen thinks we need more shooters rather than another big, and in a way that makes sense as we lost our two best shooters in grayer and Otis (well Otis before this past season).

I think he must be much higher on Oduro than we are, is what I’m thinking. Is that hubris or genius? We will find out I guess.

Disagree. We need help in the low post. If DP is still looking for shooters, then we are, once again, behind the right ball. Always something missing with his rosters.

Well, if you think about it this way -- Calixte is fine defensively, gets the easy buckets, and is a good rebounder, but we have zero consistent shooters on the perimeter and we are in a guard heavy league...it kind of makes sense.

I mean, would it be nice to have a more established big to help in the low post? Sure. But this is also an opportunity for AJ to prove he can be a consistent contributor on the team in a way he couldn't last year stuck behind Calixte and Reuter.

Think about it this way -- we are so worried about a guy like Santos-Silva eating our lunch. And, a, that dude was pretty trash two seasons ago and in a single offseason became a monster. And, b, he's 6'7 (he looked like a toddler next to Tacko Fall). Calixte and AJ are going into the offseason pretty clearly as option 1 and 2 at the 5, hopefully that motivates them to prove everyone on this board wrong who is overlooking them.

The 5 is still a question mark for sure, but also think about this: if you can have 3 or 4 shooters on the floor at all times and space the floor, deficiencies at the 5 can be masked (even defensively, especially if you have good rebounders on the wings like Miller, Kier, and Greene). It's really hard to mask throwing up bricks left and right.

I would agree with you gem if our 6'6 wings were about 20lbs thicker with muscle and were snipers. If DP wants to play small ball we gotta shoot the ball extremely well every game. Top teams have a solid big, but also have girth on the wings too. We dont.

I’ve been saying this for weeks. Glad you finally agree with me.
you said there were no grad transfer bigs out there and it would be a waste for a scholarship.... then the other dude posted a list of 30 transfer GT bigs... with about 4-5 guys better than anything we have on it.

Consistent outside shooting can mask many problems. Not sure if grabbing a big to fill that perceived need is going to really solve all of our issues if the opposing defense can just collapse into the paint because they know Kier isn't gonna jack up 10 threes in a game. (Disclaimer: I don't know what I'm talking about)

Bullshit. I said there were no worthwhile bigs who would come here. And now it appears as though I was right all along.

Miller, for sure, will have to get bigger. Mar was listed at only 6 pounds lighter than Griffin, so he isn’t that far away. AJ needs to gain at least 15 pounds, probably 20, if he’s going to play more than 10 mpg at the 5.

But it’s a long offseason. You can easily gain 20 pounds of muscle in 8-9 months.
