It makes Buckley, a junior point guard at Stone Bridge in Ashburn, Va., an intriguing (and unique) point guard prospect who has already received a large handful of Division I offers.
“A lot of schools that are recruiting me right now think I have a perfect balance of scoring and passing, racking up assists,” the 6-foot Buckley said last week after his junior season had concluded. “I think a coach is going to pick me up who likes my style of play, a more old-fashioned point guard who gets everybody involved, gets after it on defense.
"There are some coaches who like electric guards who score and score and score, so obviously I won’t get a look from those schools. But if there is a high-major school who likes a point guard who gets the whole team involved, I think I’m definitely the guy.”
To date, Buckley has been offered by George Mason, James Madison, Delaware, New Hampshire, American, NJIT, Bucknell, Duquesne and Youngstown State. But Buckley, Stone Bridge Coach Corey Stitzel and two power-conference assistants who have scouted (but not offered) the point guard think Buckley could end up at a wide range of schools, anywhere from low- to high-major depending on how the next four months shake out.
