Bet he transfers after a year or two. Gtown is a hot mess right now. He should have come here (I’m not biased or anything).
He is part of a 3 center class for gtown.....I don't think I've ever seen a team recruit 3 centers in one class before.

Patrick Ewing must have a soft spot for centers. On the other side those 3 centers probably all want to be the next Patrick Ewing.

? Dude, Georgetown has it looking good.
Akinjo, McClung, and LeBlanc are all going to be top 1/3 in the Big East at their position, and Yurtseven is a really nice center for the next 2 years.

I think Ewing is doing a heck of a job.

Take it to the G'town recruiting thread ;)

It's called reading the parenthetical, guys...come on, now. Of course he was going to choose Georgetown over us (we weren't even in his final 10 or whenever he trimmed us out of his list).

Still...

Please, we have vcu trolls reading the boards. Don't use big words like "parenthetical." vcu fans have enough trouble with words like cat and dog.

I just returned from watching Dematha beat Paul VI fairly easily. I went specifically to watch how Oduro would do against the best team in the area. Dematha has a 7'2" center who is really good. Oduro was matched up against this kid and couldn't do much. Oduro got into early foul trouble. He scored 4 points (I left with a few minutes left in the game). It was my first time seeing Oduro play and while I can see potential, I would not be at all surprised to see him redshirt next year given his current status and the roster of big guys we will have back next year. Overall, using a sample size of one game, I was not particularly impressed.

You prob would of said same thing if you went to see Calixte play his senior yr. So while I have concerns about level of talent we bring in, it's a tad short sighted to expect JO to blow your doors off when you knew going in he wasnt highly rated to begin with. This one hinges on development which our staff seems pretty good at.

I was at the game tonight also. I can see that the potential is there. Coach Simpkins was in attendance. JO's positioning was on point for the game but he def needs to add a ton of strength and conditioning. I'm confident he'll get it at Mason. That Dematha team looked legit, they have more than a handful of high major players. Paul IVs freshman pg is fun to watch, hope we are on him right now.

For the record, I was NOT expecting "JO to blow my doors off." If anything, my expectations were tempered before walking into the gym. That said, I was still not particularly impressed. He very well may develop into a fine player for us and I sure hope he does. My point is that for fans who are expecting him to come in and contribute right away, better think again.

He’ll be behind Reuter and Calixte at the least and possibly AJ if he continues to be thought of as a 5 and stays. He will most likely get red-shirted so he doesn’t waste a year on the bench.

And he may never start. We need another big in 2020 (hopefully, 2021 at the very latest) as well since Reuter graduates next year and Calixte the year after, so Oduro might be a lifer role player. Or he might develop into a beast. At the very least he will have two years of development before we really need to find out.

Right now he is a 6'8 ish mound of clay that has the coordination and athleticism you love to see in kids with his length. I spoke with one of his coaches this past week - should definitely expect him to redshirt as he absolutely needs to get stronger and develop his skills. Still is like a puppy dog with long limbs that he is still growing into. Smart kid who works hard.

This is a guy we probably shouldn't expect to contribute until he is a RS Soph, who will have hopefully grown to around 6'10 by then. The coach said that he is more of a guard right now in a forwards body, which means the hope is that once he develops physically and skill wise, he can be a stretch 4 matchup nightmare than can also play the 5.

Absolutely zero issues with taking a flyer on a local kid like this, especially with what Paulsen has shown with developing bigs.

I forget who it was, maybe even somebody on this boats, but we were discussing a young Roy Hibbert.

They said something to the effect of "often times, young big men absolutely suck, until suddenly they don't".

Big man development is not like guard development. While they are working, and learning, and developing l, it often doesn't show up gradually.

They simply cannot bring their skills to bear, because there is some hole in their game that renders them useless. Sometimes it's footwork, sometimes it's strength, sometimes it's whatever.

The point is, they've been developing a nice little jump hook for the last three years, but we never see it because they get knocked off the block. That doesn't mean he isn't developing, just that it doesn't show up on game day.

Then, suddenly, they reach some critical mass of development, and suddenly they can use all the stuff they have been working on, and theyre effective overnight. They didn't suddenly improve a ton, they are just suddenly able to use their years of development.

Hibbert was AWFUL because he had crappy balance, but he did yoga and whatnot for years, and when his balance ticked just a little bit better, he was suddenly this beast in the middle who was a load to handle.

Long story short, you dont judge/scout big men the same way you judge/scout guards because they don't develop the same.

For some guys, they never get there, and they seemingly never develop, but for other guys, it seems to happen one random Saturday afternoon halfway through their sophomore year.

Oduro is big and coordinated, and I'm willing to take a shot on that combo.
