Something strange is going on - not uncommon when you're dealing with kids 16, 17, and 18 years old. Who knows.

Would love to know who else is still out there and on our radar. Anyone have an updated list?

Lets not jump to conclusions. The coaching staff didn't publicize the official visit to mason either. They are probably keeping all this private to ensure a commit.

Unfortunately as you probably know the information is few and far between until things get closer for the most part. I suspect they may have a few recruits at the home opener as they usually do.

The great thing about this class is that we currently don't have any holes in the roster. You can always be more athletic, and you can never have enough shooting, but it's not like we currently have a glaring weakness that must be addressed with this final scholly. Would love for it to be Knox, but if it's not, the staff has the latitude to be as picky as they want to be.

Agreed. And you never know who is going to open back up in the late signing period. We got Bryon Allen, Sherrod Wright, and Marquise Moore all in the late signing period, and their recruitment opened back up for a variety of different reasons.

Almost landed Grant Hill late in the signing period.

Knox is a good prospect but we have depth at his position and I’d pocket the scholarship anyhow, truth be told.

If there’s another Reuter out there looking to sit one and play two, and I’m sure there will be since about 850 guys transfer every year, it would benefit us to have an open spot in the spring.

I agree. Keep it open.

I expect Reuter to be an impact player. It will be a selling point to a potential transfer to see Reuter's success in the program.

And the timing would be perfect, since the “sit” year would be Reuter’s senior season.

Considering how many guys transfer annually, plucking a skilled-but-underutilized big off a P5 roster every two years has to be easier than projecting which HS bigs are gonna pan out.

If we have the kind of season I and many others expect us to have, the staff will have no trouble finding a taker for that last scholarship in the spring.

Like most teams in the A10, Mason has one weakness, the lack of looonnng rim protector, we could go after
archbishop carrol's 6'10 - 7' tegra izay in 2020. He is being trained alongside qudus wahab by duval simmonds this fall. Last year as a sophomore, he had 6 10+ blocked shot games. He is raw, athletic and juSt beginning to scatch the surface.

I believe he has already received an offer from lasalle

It's possible. GW & ODU both picked up 7'+ former top 100 recruit transfers from Georgetown & LSU respectively.

Dayton & UMASS also got kids just shy of 7' from Nebraska and Vanderbilt.

Unless he’s a stiff, a guy that size is gonna wind up at a P5 like Wahab. If he is a stiff, our staff won’t want him. Can’t see it happening.

Maybe depends on how raw he is? Kind of like Larry Sanders winding up at vcu or Shevon Thompson winding up at GMU. Both of them had P5 size, but both were pretty dang raw when they got on campus.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think Dave would recruit either of those guys.

Shevon is a terrific athlete, but he could barely pass out of a double team without turning the ball over until the second half of his senior year.

Maybe I'm still biased from the larranaga years, but I firmly believe that the way you succeed at the mid-major level (and, like it or not, the A-10 is still mid-major. High mid-major, but mid-major) is by recruiting the "inch too short" and "step too slow" guys who are really good basketball players.

Guys like Reuter, actually, who got an offer from UVa after most of the big time programs backed off him.

Winning as a mid-major isn't about finding NBA guys, it's about finding guys who can play in Europe, and having a bunch of them as upper-classmen. It's about getting old and staying old with a bunch of "flawed" guys who really know how to play, and really know how to play together.

I think that's where we are now. We're old, and we're skilled, and each guy is a little flawed (Otis is too slight and not athletic, reuter is too short, Kier can't shoot, Mar is between positions), but they're all good players, and they've got a ton of experience, and so they're going to be a really good team.

the virus tried recruiting a bunch of "if things break right, they could be NBA players" types, and while there were some hits (thompson, the kid who transferred to providence), there were a lot of misses, and his teams generally sucked.

Give me guys who play 8 years in belgium because they're a 6'1 shooting guard.
