We aren't there. Every time we go searching, it a whole new regime, whole new mentality, etc. If we hired Courtney last time or Cherry this time......it would have come across as alot smoother....

Paulsen is also probably waiting for Bucknell to hire their coach to see how much of his staff he can bring with him.

they might have it easier b/c they have watched us do it all wrong. But now the slate is clean for both programs. New captains for both. Regardless of their success and our shitty 4 years, one could argue there's a lot more pressure on Wade than there is on Paulsen. Wade has 8000k assistant coaches already breathing down his neck. Paulsen has yet to hire one.

Well I wouldnt say it was easier because of our BS. Call #1 and #2 went to two recent assistants that were now HCs that the AD felt comfortable with.

We had an AD handed a sh*t sandwich and had no choice to blow it up and start over. Plus he and The Pres had no ties to the OCM regime, despite the fan base.

But again, they got a coach who fit into the vcu "way"...which makes the search much easier than "who can we hire?" None of this is a knock on Paulsen. It goes back to our program has no history or continuity or identity other than what OCM gave us.

I hope we do two things. 1) stop making shit sandwiches. 2) get quality assistants.

Coach P is out recruiting, handling the fort back home, settling his family in...get the guy some assistants!!!

Obviously, Coach Paulsen will hire his assistants, and it's highly likely that his lead assistant will be Dane Fischer if he isn't promoted to head coach at Bucknell.

When he gets to a national championship game, not just a Final Four it will be an "upgrade." When he averages 27 wins and not just 26 it will be an "upgrade." Until then, stop acting like losing your most successful coach is a good thing. It sounds like sour grapes.

"If Shaka doesn't recruit these guys, any chance that he reaches out and tells them how successful they will be at vcu? He has to believe that they are still a perfect fit for the program."

Matt McGall is the new coach at UTC. Eric Konkol was one of the three finalists.
