I guarantee you some students are going to respond to me on there. And there are more students on GMU reddit than there are here.

Anyone from the fieldhouse would be well advised to read their responses to my post on reditt asking what do we need to do to get more support.
lol that sub is almost exclusively CS majors and guys who wear cat ears. Good luck with whatever responses you get on there.

People would care if we made it to the dance but people also see through the yearly 10-4 OOC record. They aren’t fooled by beating the brakes off of ITT Tech.

I'd remind people of that.
Look at the backlash that got. Look at how that was "blamed" for the cost of attending Mason.

We have deeper cultural issues for whatever reason. We need to "sell" our students that going to a game and supporting a team is a good thing.

Does the Director of Fan Engagement realize this or do these marketing people just collect their paycheck and call it a day?
If I wasn't a sports fan, I would be with the "backlash" 100%.
What they don't realize is that sports success brings money to the entire school.
But yeah, honestly, I totally get it.

At least I dared to reach out to the students and asked tough questions/sought feedback.

I don't see the fieldhouse thinking outside the box

Let's see your effort @MasonSAE4
Maybe you should offer your services to the AD. Seems pretty clear to me there are no goals, stretch or otherwise, no KPIs to measure performance….one could go on and on.

Until you get a crew in the AD that understands they need to DO something and there is some accountability nothing will change.

Interesting numbers. I think I'd also like to see what the nonconf average was versus the a10 season. Its going to be hard to average a game against the blind sisters with a game against GW.

Also goes to show you that when the most important games are on the line (a10 tournament), we get folks showing up. A total of 12k was at the A10 final, and even if 50% was Mason fans, you're talking about 6000.
None of these numbers are that unusual for a mid major program in my opinion, even though there will always be exceptions. At the end of the day give me 2500 passionate fans, versus 4000 fans where I can take a nap.

Most of our non-con attendence was under 3,000. The two highest were the home opener against NC Central (3,207) and Mount Saint Mary’s (3,295).

If Mason is good next season I think our attendance will be significantly better simply because we will get vcu, Dayton, and JMU at home. If GW is better next season that game should draw better. Same with Richmond.

Good data

but need a finer level of detail
especially if we were to attempt "Optimized Scheduling"

averages by
day of week
A-10 and OOC
KenPom buckets
distances (potential rivalries)
A-10 rankings

Agreed — highly uninspiring OOC home slate and playing all of the best conference teams on the road adds up to small crowds. Hopefully the run to the A-10 final has legs and people who came out that weekend will remember how much fun they had when next season starts.

We seem to always play a bunch of games (maybe more than we have to) while students are on break. Could we do a better job of scheduling so that doesn’t happen as often? Maybe do our MTEs over the holidays instead of at the start of the season?
