http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/heres-a-shocker-wichita-state-may-join-aac/2317684:

"The AAC received two men's NCAA Tournament bids this season (Cincinnati, SMU), but UCF has reached the NIT's final four in New York City. If Memphis and Connecticut get back on track and the Shockers join, the 'Power Six' narrative AAC commissioner Mike Aresco has consistently pushed would have more merit.

At least from November to March."

The P5 only cares about two days in January.

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/...c-conference-votes-add-wichita-state-shockers:

"The American Athletic Conference unanimously voted Friday morning to add Wichita State as a league member for the 2017-18 season, the conference said.

Wichita State is expected to accept the AAC's invitation and leave the Missouri Valley Conference, where the Shockers have been members since 1945, sources said.

Wichita State will join the AAC in all sports, except football, giving the AAC both a 12-team football and basketball league. The AAC has 11 all-sports members (Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, South Florida, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and UCF) and Navy is a football-only member."

"Because of Wichita State's departure, Missouri Valley presidents and athletic directors reportedly will meet Sunday in St. Louis to discuss how the league will replace the Shockers."

The league is rediculously all over the place

I've got to think, too, the Cincy and UConn jump at the first P5 opportunity they can. I guess it's possible both of those schools got "stuck" in the AAC. But I still think at some point the ACC goes to 16, and then the SEC and Big 10 follow suit. And maybe Texas gets over itself and allows the Big 12 to become 12 again.

There's got to be one more big football shuffle left, right?

Can UConn pull off P5? Basketball is on a downhill slide and their football is located half an hour away in a state that doesn't give a shit about football.

Probably because of the "tv" market...Hartford-New Haven is #30.

Granted most people don't care about UConn out of Storrs...but it makes the advertising sales easier as national advertisers want "market coverage."

It doesn't really matter of people care about it, so long as whoever is providing cable up there is collecting their per cable subscriber fees to have the B10 or SEC or whatever network added to their sports package.

It's why the Big 10 took Rutgers instead of UConn.

Sources: MVC targeting VALPO, Murray State as new additions following loss of Wichita State. STORY @FanRagSports:

https://www.fanragsports.com/news/m...additions-following-wichita-states-departure/:

"The Missouri Valley Conference is targeting both Valparaiso and Murray State as potential additions following Wichita State’s departure to the American Athletic Conference, multiple sources told FanRag Sports.

Those two additions would give the league 11 teams in total which would lead to each team playing twice during the regular season in a 20-game league format, according to separate source.

FanRag Sports reported earlier this week that the MVC presidents and athletic directors would meet on Sunday in Saint Louis to discuss the future of the league."
