https://www.onlineathens.com/story/...basketball-nonconference-schedule/3828998001/:

"George Mason graduate transfer guard Justin Kier, coming off a one-game suspension, hit a 3-pointer with 9:10 to go in the game as the Bulldogs ran off 11 straight points."

"'We've been here since the summer, and the guys have jelled really well,' Kier said. 'I don't think we're there yet. I think we can get a lot better, but it's always good to come out 3-0. ...Everyone I think is getting a little piece of their role and we're still figuring some stuff out. I think everybody needs to take it up a notch and we can be better than we are now.'

Kier finished with 11 points and handed out 7 assists with four steals."

https://gomason.com/news/2020/12/9/...lan-10-and-her-role-in-a-historic-moment.aspx:

"When it became apparent Sarah Fuller was going to make history, Kelly Keelan stopped the car.

The George Mason alumna veered off the side of the road on the way back to her parents' house outside of Philadelphia and turned the game on from her phone. Like so many others on Saturday, she wanted to see Fuller become the first woman to play in a Power 5 Conference college football game when she kicked off to open the second half of Vanderbilt's Southeastern Conference matchup against Missouri.

'I wanted to pull over, show my support, and take in the moment,' Keelan said. 'It was a proud moment. The fact she had the courage and the guts to just walk onto a football team—a SEC-level football team—without fear or hesitation is pretty impressive.'

Keelan had more than a rooting interest, though.

As an assistant coach for the Vanderbilt women's soccer team in charge of the goalkeepers, Keelan watched Fuller grow over the last four years. Fuller overcame not only two foot injuries and a back injury but she also battled yearly competition for the starting goalkeeper spot—a position she won over for the last nine games this fall.

'She put her head down and just kept working and never quit,' Keelan said. 'Although we've had tough conversations with her about playing time, as it is a difficult position to win over at times and with her injuries, she just kept pushing. She wasn't going to hear the word "no" anymore, and when the opportunity came to win the starting position, she took it.'

Just one day after helping Vanderbilt win its first SEC women's soccer tournament championship in 26 years, Fuller once again chose not to say no. Asked to help a football team ravaged by COVID-19, she stepped up to the challenge and five days later delivered a gender barrier-breaking kick."

Thanks for posting. I was wondering what happened to Kelly Keelan.

It is mind-boggling to think that a Mason grad had a role in that historic 30-yard kickoff. Its also crazy to think about the countless young girls that were headed to low-paying, possibly secretarial or adult entertainment-related jobs, that now hopefully realize they can do anything just as well as men.

ANYTHING. So inspirational.

https://gomason.com/news/2020/12/16/mens-basketball-around-the-world-with-mason-basketball.aspx:

"Five Mason alums are competing internationally in the early portion of the European and Asian seasons.

Explosive forward Mike Morrison ('12) continues to impress in Turkey this campaign, averaging 13.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals for Yalova Basket over the first seven games. Morrison tallied a game-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds in a win over Akhisar Bid on Nov. 14.

Elsewhere, Morrison's former teammate Bryon Allen ('14) is putting together a solid season in the German Bundesliga. He's averaging 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists through six games for Basketball Loewen Brauncshweig. He tallied 18 points and dished out five assists in a win over Giessen on Dec. 8. Allen's squad is 4-2 to begin the campaign.

In Israel, Darryl Monroe ('09) is averaging double figures for Maccabi Rishon while leading the team to a 4-3 record thus far. Monroe is at 11.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per contest. He had 20 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Hapoel Tel-Aviv Thursday

Journeyman Will Thomas ('08) continues to put together an outstanding professional career, now in year 13th season. While suiting up for Zenit Sankt Petersburg in Russia, Thomas is compiling 8.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest. He tallied 12 points in a Euroleague victory over Valencia Basket this past week.

Recent grad Jalen Jenkins ('17) is in Belgium, where he's averaging 4.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Antwerp Giants. Jenkins is competing in his fourth season abroad."

George Papas dropped 9 threes on Hofstra last night. But Paulsen didn't think we needed a shooter. How different we would of been with a deep threat last 2 years.

He was fine being a preferred walk on. But a chance to earn a scholly wasn't something Lil Dave would commit to.

that is just so weird considering we have always withheld a scholarship. I wonder what Dave's point was

We only had 9 scholarship players that year, which is makes it even weirder. But I also know Newman announced he was transferring pretty late and Relvao left the team like two weeks before the season, not sure what the timing was on Monmouth offering Papas.

Doesn't that make him a perfect Paulsen recruit-under the radar.

Would of been a great fit, imo, in this system. More set shots.

If we needed anything in that class, it was more bigs. In the summer, we thought we were going into the season with Otis, Grayer, Kier, Boyd, Mar, Javon, and Newman. Newman jumps ship over the summer, but even then you have 6 guards/wings on the roster.

For forwards, we had AJ, Calixte, Relvao, and a red-shirting Reuter and that’s it. Relvao bails two weeks before the start of the season and that’s why you had Mar starting at the 5 and Grayer at the 4.

A real 4 to go along with AJ and another 5 (if you remember everyone wanted Paulsen to get a grad transfer big and there was an argument about why he couldn’t land one) is what we needed.

Oh, and we probably could have used a backup point guard so Otis didn’t kill himself, but Papas wouldn’t have filled that roll.

maybe she should have stayed at Mason... went from possibly top 5 greatest players ever to wear a Mason uniform to the 9th man on a Big 10 team... what a disparity between Mason athletics and the rest of the world.

NCH will be fine. More surprising is that Tennessee going on the road and beating Indiana is considered an upset in women's hoops these days.
