Who makes the call on if this happens? I've been saying for a long time we should retire jerseys. I can't think of Evans, butler, and sanders off the top of my head. Arguments could be made for others.
The School's AD manages these types of items. Hall of fames, jersey retirements, etc. This is just another marketing tool to remind our die hard fans and the occasional non-alumni fans who come to bball games of who we are and the greats that have come through our doors.
I'm a big VT Football fan, VT has a new AD this year (Whit Babcock) who is already turning heads in the major sports - Football and BBall. Just google Whit Babcock to see what his past is, he is an emerging, young, rockstar AD who understands the dire needs of fundraising - corporate, alumni, etc. He just hired Hokie and ex-NFL RB Kevin Jones as a personal assistant to him. He created a special position for Kevin to have him go after corporate donors, fundraising, recruiting trips, etc. Gosh darn genius move. See it is small things like this that will turn heads and get revenue and attention flowing to the avenues their AD is aiming for. Therefore, I wish Brad Edwards would drive down to Blacksburg and have dinner with their AD and discuss fundraising iniatives and just exchange ideas and such on how to grow athletics in general. Brad should look at creating special assistant roles for Jai Lewis, JV, Lamar Butler, Skinn, etc for the guys that are around and take these guys to lunch or dinner outings with CEO's of AOL, Microstrategy, Booz Allen, etc. Ugh, the possibilities are ENDLESS with our region. I don't think people understand how talented and gifted the NOVA area is with great companies and SO MUCH MONEY that is here. Brad needs to Tap, Tap, Tap on this unlimited resource!!
But back to the Jersey thing...Hey Brad... Marketing 101..... reward those who have brought great recognition and talents to your school/organization.
