Quigley, Ball, and OConnor can all shoot too. We should be able to have 3 to 4 solid shooters on the floor at all times, especially if Billups works on his jumper.
This is true. I'm starting to wonder where the minutes are going to come from for some of these guys. Ball I especially thought would make a big jump in PT but with these new signings all of these guys are going to have to battle for minutes.

I mean, Mason has advertised itself as one of the most diverse colleges in the U.S. for awhile and they had to go away from “where innovation is tradition” since ASU has a monopoly on the innovation front (and believe me #1 in Innovation has been a damn good marketing campaign for ASU).

I also have no problem with the whole inclusion language. It’s also in ASU’s charter (we are defined not by whom we exclude but by whom we include). I just wish George Mason wouldn’t follow suit by defining inclusion through massive enrollment numbers.

But this is also probably straying into politics a little too much.
My son just finished his second year at ASU and I agree the Innovation marketing is everywhere.

By the way, Hurley pulled a rabbit out of his hat in their recruiting this year.

If we can get all of these pieces gelled and working together as a TEAM then the sky is the limit. These guys are all talented and have proved they can score - just putting it altogether and working together is the name of the game.

Maddox - Needs to be more consistent in making wide open shots.

KD - Can he consistently get to the rim and produce offensively time and again.

Haynes - Wildcard.... can he be THE offensive and defensive big man player we need him to be.

Emejuru - Wildcard.... can he defend at a high clip without getting in to foul trouble consistently and give us some key buckets when needed.

Ball - Can he take that big step forward to be a consistent scorer.... tools are there, can our coaching refine his scoring to be more consistent.

Billups - Can he improve his jumper and be more consistent when driving the lane. We know what he can do defensively but offensively can he make that jump.

O'Connor and Quigley - can they gel with the team and style of play and find their roles offensively and on the defensive end.

If this happens then we have a shot at being really good next year and shot to be Top 4 in conference.

When you defend at the level of intensity Tony wants, you need to have 10-11 players to make it work. There will be enough minutes to go around.

Agree. I doubt anyone will average 30 minutes this year. 25 for starters and 15 for the backups might be more reasonable and it takes you 10 deep. 20 and 20 in some cases or just ride the hot hand. Additionally, at least on paper foul trouble should not be an issue.

I just worry about any team with this many new pieces, if it takes time for them to gel, you can play your way out of an at large resume even if you're really good by the time conference play rolls around.
That is why you have to schedule the maximum number of buy games so that even if you dont have a team gelling yet you can still beat a MEAC school by at least 15 and send them on their way.

Yep. Time will tell if this is still a sport that I want to invest time and money into.
For me, and for most if not all I suspect, it's always been about the name (in spite of the logo used) on the front of the jersey and not the back. Sure that sounds very cliché, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

It's just that this new reality of easy transfer and NIL are really going to test that cliché for continued applicability, i.e. will people still root for Mason, GMU, Patriots, and now even IMG_20240502_200136.jpg, no matter that who is wearing the jersey changes each year.

For me and my house, we root for the George Mason Patriots, ... period!

I just want us to have good players in our uniforms. As long as that’s the case, it honestly matters less if the names and faces change significantly from season to season — unlike some people I’m not attached enough to the players to feel emotional if they decide to leave. With Tony I’m extremely confident he can find replacements who are as good or better.

Bottom line, I cheer for the laundry and don’t want it to suck. That’s it.
