Welcome Nick!
The 6’7 235lb F comes to Fairfax from Murray St where he averaged 9.9ppg & 5.4rpg last season.
That was my vibe as wellAnyone else getting Mailk Henry energy here?
A big that can actually jump! Yessir, we'll take him,
Totally fair concern, but I think it’s worth remembering that bigs usually take longer to adjust to higher-level competition. Guards tend to adapt quicker, while centers often need time to catch up physically and mentally. What worries me with Ellington is his performances against the better schools with better bigs. Just last year...
Pitt - 6 min, 1 reb, 2 pts
Nebraska - 21 min, 5 reb, 1 pt
Loyola Chicago - 13 min, 1 reb, 4 pts
Previous years also look similar against better teams. Not saying Ellington won't be a great piece for us, but I'm still hoping we have some money set aside for a starting big.
If the numbers being tossed around are even remotely accurate, Mason may not be able to afford to add another big unless it’s a high upside guy who needs development.Totally fair concern, but I think it’s worth remembering that bigs usually take longer to adjust to higher-level competition. Those games are tough to judge—he probably wasn’t fully prepared for that level, then went right back to facing lower comp, so it’s hard to get a clear read.
That said, I do have some questions from the film. Not much post work—mostly quick drop steps and dunks. But it’s highlight footage, so hard to say what kind of player he really is.
I’m with you though. he could be a great piece, but I hope there’s still room to bring in a proven big too.
That is why we couldn't keep HaynesIf the numbers being tossed around are even remotely accurate, Mason may not be able to afford to add another big unless it’s a high upside guy who needs development.
Starter-level bigs who put up better numbers than Nick are getting PAID this offseason.
That is why we couldn't keep Haynes

He is commanding over double of what Masons budget is this seasonhe scored 10 points in the Jordan Classic Game yesterday
i think he is above the GMU budget as at worst he is one of the top 10 high school seniors in the country
that brings light to a potential recruiting strategyHe is commanding over double of what Masons budget is this season
I’m wondering how HS prospects costs in comparison to transfers?that brings light to a potential recruiting strategy
1) bring guys who previously "got the bag" but underperformed;
2) bring guys from lower conferences who are working their way up in the NIL funding,
i.e. $85k is a lot when last year you got $0,
and do well and you can transfer up to a higher paying program next season
