Yeah those comments sound like bitter UMD and GW fans. UMD fans are bitter that they aren't that relevant anymore - like Georgetown and GW fans who are upset they aren't the only A10 game in town.

So I got the chance to sit down with Kim one on one after the presser today to chat and ask him a few questions. Great guy to talk to, there was virtually no "coach speak", he said what he meant and he meant what he said. It was a breath of fresh air to hear his vision for the team.

It's super easy to see why everyone thinks he's going to be a great recruiter, he is super easy to talk to, very nice guy, real easy going. But man, once we started talking basketball, the man is INTENSE. He's got a passion for the game that I honestly haven't seen before, I don't know how a player could talk to a guy like that and not want to play for him.

We talked expectations for year one and one thing he said jumped out at me, his expectation for himself and something he is holding himself accountable for is re-recruiting the core of the current roster. He specifically mentioned that the core of this team is an NCAA quality team, and he wants to build around that. He wants to bring in guys that are going to complement the pieces we have right now that are working to push us over the hump.

On transfers -- he doesn't want to "assemble talent" (hello URI lol), he is interested in building a complete team. Transfers are clearly a part of his plan but they aren't the whole plan. He reiterated that it all starts with the core that we currently have.

Scheduling I personally loved his philosophy. He said he wants to challenge our team every year. That means bringing in tough teams at both the mid major and P5 level so we don't cakewalk to conference play and get blindsided by our weaknesses. When I asked what we should be looking at from a SOS perspective he said he takes an analytic approach to it, he wants to look at where at large teams were at SOS the year prior and strive to mimic that. He went out of his way to say that he wants to schedule tournament teams from the previous season and bring teams to Fairfax that will get the fan base excited.

He's not perfect though, he didn't know what Brion's was, but I imagine we'll fix that after our first big win.

We talked for awhile and there is a ton more so I'd recommend y'all listen to the podcast that By George is putting out tomorrow to get a more complete scoop, there are some absolute gems in there.

Last time I heard players have first 7 secs was when we hired The Virus. I cringed upon hearing that again. However, it's reassuring that KE has a plan after 7 secs whereas The Virus did not. The players have to be really good in match ups to produce scoring in first 7 secs. Right now, unless it's 3pt shot for Kolek, or a low post entry pass, I'm not confident we can take many off the dribble.

Also, where has XJ been. No mention of him. Was he at Presser?

We have a lot to hold him accountable on right away then. All 3 of our "core" players are in the transfer portal. Will be a big test for him right away to try and keep those guys.

If he finds replacements who are as good as or better than the guys who leave, fine by me. We’ve gotta get used to the fact that the roster is going to turn over more than ever with the new transfer rules ... can’t get attached to individual players anymore.
