Welcome Kameron Murrell

From Long Beach - preped at IMG Academy in Florida. I've seen him listed as both a SG and a PG. From the box scores I found on IMG, it look like he can shoot the ball and he put up some decent numbers. The only offers I've seen were from us and Robert Morris. I saw that Texas had shown some interest recently.

I would love to know more about him, because our staff didn't waste a lot of time going after him. It seems like somone was very high on him - not sure who.

We offered him before we really even had a staff so I'm going to suggest its Paulsen himself that liked Murrell enough to make the offer. Not an impressive list of offers but at this point in the game we just need a guy that can dribble and chew gum at the same time!

Pros:
  • Looks like he can stroke it from outside
  • Seems to run a lot of offense out of Pick and Roll (which is Paulsen's go to, from what I've read)
  • Paulsen really liked him, and I'm still in the "give him the benefit of the doubt" honeymoon phase
Cons:
  • Little. Listed between 5'11 and 6'0 and 160 lbs. Means he's probably 5'10 IRL.
  • Doesn't seem overly athletic.
  • Might defense be an issue?

If DP likes him then he must fit in some how. Maybe down the road. Reminds me of Ike Tate.

I'll take a player that the coach knows how he will fit into his system over a player that is recruited only because he has stars next to his name.

Tangentially, Ike Tate will always be one of my favorite Mason players. That guy embodies the mid-major ethic. He just kept his nose to the grindstone for 4 solid years, and worked his butt off. He never had a "leap". He just gradually improved from one day to the next, and by his senior year, was a pretty darn good player.

He's the kind of guy I love rooting for.

Kameron Murrell (Poly, Long Beach, Calif.) 6-2 CG 2014
Put on the best single performance at either tournament we witnessed in two days, as the Jackrabbits came back from 14 down at the end of the third period to record a dramatic 90-89 double overtime victory over FAB 50-ranked Wenonah (Birmingham, Ala.). Murrell, an unsigned prospect, had 25 points in the fourth and the two overtimes, hitting big shot after big shot in a game full of them. Murrell finished with 37 points, making 5-of 13 two-point attempts and 7-of-11 3-pointers. Also a good defender, Murrell is learning where to attack and when to pull up and is playing with an extreme amount of confidence. His outside shooting and intermediate game is there and he’s a solid ball-handler.

I've seen a couple other sites that list him between 6-1 and 6-2 as well.
