On the court, Hartwell wants to be a lockdown defender. He discussed how that has been a difficult goal to attain, as he guards Otis Livingston II every day in practice.
"He is very good at using his body and changing direction," Hartwell discussed. "I have definitely learned a lot from him."
"I definitely play with a chip on my shoulder every day," Hartwell stated. "George Mason gave me this opportunity to play and I want to take advantage of that. I want to show everybody it doesn't matter about the height or the size of a player, but how much heart and athleticism that player has. I am going to come in here and do my best and try to help our team win."
Great article. DP and his staff continue to bring very high quality young men into the program.

I have a man crush on Jamal's ability to play D. Just saying. I wish he was bigger but the kid can move his feet and D it up. Also impressed with his pass first mentality offensively. Just wish he was bigger. I don't know how it will all end up in 4 years but the kid is fun to watch 5 games into his career. I just wish he was bigger..........................................
I wish he was bigger
Since we're not trying to fire our coach or run down our recruits today, I thought it might be a good time to point out that Jamal has 3 turnovers in 134 minutes as a freshman point guard who generally has the ball in his hands while on the court. That's insane.
And shooting %50 from 3. Grtanted its only 6-12 but his stroke and confidence on the shot , me likesSince we're not trying to fire our coach or run down our recruits today, I thought it might be a good time to point out that Jamal has 3 turnovers in 134 minutes as a freshman point guard who generally has the ball in his hands while on the court. I love the tempo change he gives to our offense when he comes in. Although he's a very good shooter as Chank pointed out, his pass-first mentality keeps the ball rotating and forces defenses to be more on their toes. Can't wait to see what he can do next season when his minutes expand significantly.
