Welcome Coach Paulsen!

Dave was well-within norms for tv color analysts and far less annoying than most. Naturally he was complimentary to both coaches but was unusually honest in responding to the other announcer asking "what can we expect in the upcoming vcu-LaSalle game" which was about to follow on the network.

Dave said something like that vcu was a top 2 or 3 defensive team nationally and LaSalle has struggled and unless something changed, that game likely would turn out as one-sided as the game they were covering (which was already out of hand). Certainly not hyping the upcoming game, much to the consternation of network execs, I would suspect!

I didn't hear any mention of being an advisor to the Fordham head coach this year, but the other announcer more than once made mention of him being at Mason for 6 yrs and Bucknell before that.

He did express that while meeting with the GW and Dayton coaches and players in prepping for the game, that he missed coaching and the relationships you form with your players. And indicated a desire to return to head coaching in the future.
Thanks. Yes, it's easy to pile on Paulsen, but let's be honest, this is not the most objective crowd to grade him.
I hope he does get a good coaching gig...and succeeds.

Your point is well taken regarding Paulsen meeting the threshold for average/above average color commentators. At least he took the time to do his research before the broadcast, more than a lot of broadcast veterans.

Maybe I'm asking for too much but it sure would be nice to have a coach really break things down and point out more than, "Dayton's in a 2-3 zone."

It's only his first broadcast so maybe he'll improve.

Yeah, pretty accurate of what went on. Some coach speak, and he never crossed the line of being crucial of either coach, but he did mention some good analysis of what he saw out of GW with body language etc.

I personally don’t really listen to the announcers for a10 games. They usually don’t know the programs and seem pretty disinterested. For once I thought Daves a10 knowledge helped the broadcast.

It sounds like more of a good natured tease to me. Us old guys need to be able to roll with the punches and remember that age gives us the advantage of wisdom and perspective!
Maybe so. And I again wish we had a sarcasm font on here. Other sites have it.
Anyway, I'll delete my response.

Does John Giannini still do any commentary? I haven’t watched any In-conference games yet this season.

He probably does. Yesterday was the first in conference game I watched so I wouldn't know.

Whatever consulting Paulsen did with Fordham, its worked...
Listening to Boomer & Gio on WFAN this morning, they played call from the end of the Fordham game last night. Mentioned that Fordham is 2-0 for the first time in the A10.
I believe they joined in 1995.

they beat the worst and second worst A10 teams... They will finish with under 5 A10 wins and you can take that to your bookie. Oduro might score 40 against their big dude

Hot pick of the week -- Fordham is not going to be in the pillow fight this year.
