vcu sponsored by Nike but we aren't

Why is vcu sponsored by Nike but we aren't? I know we used too, but Duke and Kentucky are Nike teams, so should we. Nike makes the best stuff.

If we are sponsored by Nike, we will get higher ranked recuits

I know people like Nike, but Adidas gave us a better deal and has quite a few top-tier programs under its umbrella like Indiana, Louisville, Kansas, and UCLA. It's not the end of the world.

Recruits prefer Nike. Adidas has to pay colleges more money because they make an inferior product. Money talks, which is why so many mid-majors are with adidas. Sure, there are exceptions, but every team in BCS history has been a Nike football school. Very few people under the age of 20 prefer adidas. So when you tell a recruit they have no facilities compared to other schools and they have to wear an inferior product for four years you put yourself behind the 8 ball. I know, "we wouldn't want kids like that anyways." Well, 17 years olds make up their minds over the smallest of things.

And fyi, UCLA is leaving adidas after this year. Kansas fans hate adidas.

UCLA is going to UA, which has also shelling out tons of cash to lure schools to its brand. I'm surprised they didn't push harder for Mason, since they are an area company.

UA is much better than adidas. At least you see young people wearing UA already. UA is the cool, up and coming brand, especially to kids. While it's not Nike, it's closer to Nike than adidas, that's for sure. Perhaps some of the reason (besides money) for us going adidas has to do with soccer. Apparently adidas is the best soccer stuff around.

Smoke and mirrors branding basically. They had some fantastic commercials when they launched featuring guys like Ray Lewis being badass and got the football kids hyped about wearing them.

I seriously doubt soccer was a factor. I think it was money and maybe Paulsen, since Bucknell is also Adidas and maybe he actually likes them.

I've never had on a pair of Under Armour's in my life so I can't say anything about their shoes one way or the other. I'm just talking about the perception. The perception is that Nike/UA are cool. And adidas isn't. High school kids wear Under Armour. Adidas is marginally involved on the AAU level compared to Nike (Boo Williams, Team United, Team Takeover) or Under Armour (Splash City Jazz, KC Run GMC).

Right or wrong that is a (not the, but a) factor in choosing a school.

Who cares. Adidas AAU circuit is just as big and popular as Nike's.

Nike will leave vcu after season three after all of Shaka's magic and recruits are gone. Bye bye Nike! Bye Bye Richmond Neo-Hippie Art College!

Nike makes the best everything. No argument there.

Maybe if we start winning more and more Nike will reach out to us?

Nike did "reach out to us" we had them for years before the Adidas deal. Adidas came in with a better offer so they took it. I'm not sure you understand at all that its basically a business deal.

Adidas is just fine. All the materials are similar, the difference is cuts and designs. Nike bought rights for most top tier running events, and trust me they aren't the best. They fit me better than my Adidas purchases, and that's all that it comes down to. I've actually been switching a lot of my running gear to Salomon recently. They've been innovating the most so far with technical fabrics, but obviously they don't do basketball gear ;)

Holy shit. Did you create a profile AND a brand new thread just to start a NIKE vs ADIDAS debate? How f**king lonely are you?

My hunch is that this person is either a Nike rep or somebody paid by Nike to go to college message boards and start threads like this. It must be working, because I dropped $150 on Nike apparel at Kohls today.
