"The term 'up-transfer' is used to describe a player from a mid- or low-major conference who transfers up to a high-major conference. While this is generally a rare occurrence overall, up-transfers can be especially valuable for high-major teams and equally damaging for mid- and low-major teams.

In the following chart, the mid- and low-major conferences that recorded 'up-transfers' since 2017 are listed, ordered by overall frequency. The Atlantic 10 is responsible for 9.7 percent of all 'up-transfers' during this span, and its transfers have recorded an average of 1.58 win shares per season and 56.1 percent possible minutes played with their new team."

Were we though? Unless I’m forgetting someone (possible), other than Kier and Grayer, our guys who transferred up did so after a coaching change. I don’t think that qualifies us as an up-transfer factory.

USF may not be but the AAC is a "transfer up" from the A10. However, that will change after UCF, Houston, and Cincy jump to the Big12.

Yeah USF is probably roughly equivalent. As far as JDS goes he went to Manhattan and I don't see where else but perhaps it will be disclosed at some point when a school updates their roster. I don't disagree that hes probably better off at a low major/D2 school. The d1 game just seemed fast for him amongst other reasons.

USF may not be but the AAC is a "transfer up" from the A10. However, that will change after UCF, Houston, and Cincy jump to the Big12.

USF would have ranked between 9-13 in the A10 in KENPOM during all of DP's tenure. Transferring from Vermont to Fordham is not a transfer up to me either but I am not dying on that hill defending it

Interestingly, the A10 has a program with a very low transfer rate (Davidson) and one with a very high transfer rate (Duquesne):

"Programs have had an average of 22.7 players transfer out in total since 2012, or about 2.3 players per season. Colgate, Davidson, Belmont, Brown, Army and Arkansas Pine Bluff are the only programs with fewer than 10 transfers out among teams that have been at the Div. I level since at least 2012."

Which coaching change year, the year DP was hired or fired? This list doesn't go back to 2014, so it wouldn't include the Hewitt guys transferring out or the first two class exodus.

By the way, GoMason seems to have ghosted some of our former players. Guys like Isaiah Jackson and Eric Lockett don't show up on any of the rosters on the site (unless I'm missing something). Look at the 2014-2015 roster: no Jackson, no Porter, no Lockett, no Copes.
