I hate that I wanted to "like" something on the Hate Thread, but can't due to my current suspension.

I don't get to attend games and yell at Hewitt like Tom gets to do. It's a problem for me but I'm getting help.

Tom doesnt yell. Hes the one that gives Hewitt the pregame speech that he believes in him and knows he can go out there and coach well. "Dont worry about the haters, you are a good coach! You can do it! Ill defend you and make excuses on Masonhoops, so dont you worry Mr Paul!" Then he hands him a lollipop and his clipboard, remind him to tie his shoes and sends him on his way through the tunnel.

Kudos for the humorous post but you obviously don't sit in my section if you think I don't yell at the coach or players during the game. GSII, let me know if you ever want to sit with me, so we can yell together. It would be very therapeutic for you.

The stuff about his defense was mostly hyperbole. Patrick does need to learn to be something more than a turnstile on the defensive end. That's on him.

But I've been around basketball long enough to know what it looks like when a kid is struggling with his confidence. Do you not agree that Patrick is wearing that look like a mink freaking coat right now?

He came in with all kinds of swagger and looked like he was going to become our next great offensive player. Now he's hardly capable of squeezing off a shot with conviction ... looks to me like he's second-guessing himself, knowing if he misses a couple, he's probably going back to the bench.

The kid is too good a shooter to not even be hitting 30 percent on 3s.

Hewitt should just put Holloway in the game and see what he can do with 30 minutes of playing time. This team isn't going anywhere anyway ... what's the difference?

Gotcha. Pretty soon it might get to that point. Am eager to see what the kid can do, but I guess its a guaranteed 30 next year regardless.

Steve Alford, head coach at UCLA, was quoted as saying he's used more zone defense in his first 10 games at UCLA than he has in the last 15 years combined.

Adjustments. Coaching. Must be nice.

Alot of teams have played zone this year. I guess its b/c nobody can shoot and want to drive and dish or dunk. ie NBA style. I think Rick Barnes did a box in one last night in their win over Unc. Don't see that in college Div I.

I think it also has a lot to do with the new rules. With refs calling every hand-check a foul, it's easier to stay out of foul trouble by covering an area rather than covering a player.

I notice alot of announcers that do our games (and others) who arent the usuals, always seem to talk about how good of a coach Hewitt is. It always intrigues me why they say that? Do they have any idea about him game to game, or is it a general bone they throw him? What would they have to say about the well documented issues that follow him?

The dude yesterday essentially said that his issue was that he recruited too well....and his players never stuck around so he could continue to build (makes sense). But he was very complimentary of Hewitt. Hewitt is surely not the worst coach ever, but its odd that we have all these "great" coaches running around....

He made the national championship game, there always going to say he's a "good coach". When do announcers talk badly about coaches?

It was Dino Gaudio (Wake's old coach), who was a guy that coached against him head-to-head in the ACC. Naturally, he's going to only speak nicely of him.

Wasnt saying an announcer would crush a coach, just that sometimes they go out of their way to praise quite highly.

Naturally all coaches in D1 have ability, and are good coaches to some degree so it makes sense to drop a baseline "hes a good coach". I didnt know the guy was a former coach who knew Hewitt, missed that part.

I think most coaches have very high regard for Hewitt's knowledge and ability to recruit. Where I think he struggles is sometimes relaying that knowledge to his players and getting them to implement it.

I think it was St. Joe's coach Phil Martinelli who referred to him as "cerebral," which is obviously a compliment but to me if often means he overthinks things or is stubborn to a fault in thinking something should work on the court because it works on paper or in his head.

A great example is how long it took him to play zone defense, because he thought we had the athletes to plan man. It was almost like he was conceding defeat by going zone; another flaw is being too slow to adapt better to the personnel he has. I still have nightmares of us pressing in the preseason NIT at Tech a few years ago despite not having the players to run the court that well.

Yesterday was promising, because he is slowly showing signs of being able to adapt, such as going mostly with zone and abandoning the press. Time will tell if it becomes a trend.

Hewitt has been terrible since South Florida. My issues today...why does Copes suddenly see the floor at the end after a 0 point, 2 rebound day? Him falling down with the ball cost us our last timeout.

That brilliant switch on defense with Holloway and Marko late...completely stupid.

Hewitt putting a lineup with Okoloji at the 3 and Copes at 5 down the stretch...is it any wonder we don't score?

I mean, our seniors are disappointing and underachieving. Its not Hewitt's fault Allen dribbles to the corner and almost turns it over, we can't finish, etc. But Hewitt isn't putting our players in a position to win and now the season is pissed away as far as NIT/NCAA unless we miraculously win the tourney or the regular season. Which would be a miracle.

Your're just now realizing he can't coach and thus players end up looking like they cant play?
