Can anyone in the A10 hang with that length?

Yes. Primarily because it helps to be good at basketball and athletic as well. All you have listed is their height if you consider that "long" for hoops.

So is the fact that our spending by the AD overall is relatively high compared to other non-football schools, but our spending within the A10 on basketball is relatively low a sign that we are funding too many sports? I think you know my (and Five-Two's) opinion on that.

Maybe, but if you look at ticket revenue and contributions, we lag significantly behind our peer schools. We are getting marginally better, but we need a breakthrough season, I think, to get where we need to go. If we can average even 5,300 fans a game, our revenues will look a lot better. We also need to get over the $2 million mark for contributions. We do those two things, and our budget will look more like a top 7 team (we aren’t that far away from Richmond, for example — and half of that difference was just Mooney’s salary).

It frustrates me that casual fans in Northern Virginia take for granted that they can watch decent DI basketball games for reasonable rates. It cost my family of four close to $300 last season to watch a Nats game when you factor in decent seats, concessions and parking. Granted, we aren't MLB, but a family of four can enjoy one of our games all in for less than $100.

That said, I also get the argument that the hectic pace of NOVA with jobs and traffic make week-night games very difficult to attend, and it's even less enticing when you factor in that our program hasn't been relevant in seven years. It's rare that my now-teenage kids aren't busy on game nights, so more often than not I end up using only a few of my seats. I also travel a lot, and it's like pulling teeth to even give my tickets away to friends, family and clients (and that includes a parking pass and 3 Patriot Club passes).

Thankfully, gmubrian was able to use my seats three times this year, but that was at no cost since he refuses to pay for tickets anymore.

Seems like a chicken and egg situation... We need more spending to improve our situation to get better to attract more fans, donations and earn NCAA tourney money. We can hope that we inch up and defy the odds repeatedly and be the team that keeps doing more with less, or , since we seem to standout in terms of spending on other sports, relative to men's basketball, we could rebalance and take that money to jump start the process.

Winning will help a lot, especially late season gates. We are never going to sell out consistently, but a good program here will average 5,800 to 6,000 and given the size of our arena and the potential for late season sellouts, that is a significant chunk of change given 14-17 home games a year.

Might I add that we were undefeated every game that I used your tickets and you didn't invite me to the vcu game...

Since that lady can self-proclaim to be Mason Mom, I am declaring myself as the official seat filler of Mason men's basketball. If anyone needs my seat filling services next year, feel free to reach out. ;-)

You are like the guy at the Grammy's or Oscar's that sits in the seats of those who are off doing interviews after they win.

I am noticing a lot of references to Seinfeld in regards to my posts lately. I have always thought that Seinfeld helped me to understand life...

Seinfeld will forever help explain life.

I had gift cards from Dunkin’ Donuts sent to me in the mail and it turns out they were stolen probably by a postal worker. My first thought upon learning about it was picturing Newman laughing while sipping his coffee.:bagoverhead:

Remember the fire Dave Paulsen thread that was started three games into last season, that turned into a hopping on the bandwagon thread, which turned back into a fire Paulsen thread?

Fun read.

I'm not going to rehash the problems through the first 3 games, we got a board full of Woodenrzyzewskalipparittino experts already diagnosing that from their desks.

I will point out that it's been three games. Three craptastic games, but three games with at least 27 more to go. If the team does turn it around, the same nitwits who think this thread is anything but completely special needs, the same ones salivating to moisten Reuter's crank all Summer before he'd played a minute for the team, will be the same ones clamoring to hop on the bandwagon. Just like the little troll and douche duo did last year. I will again stand at the door telling them to F themselves in the A. Repeatedly. Hard and violently. DJ3 will happily comply.

So as a quick reminder, Paulsen took over a 9-22 (4-14) team, which proceeded to lose 6 of its 9 top scorers. That first class was mostly garbage, thrown together late in the season w/the exception of Otis who will go down as one of the better players the program has ever had.

  • Season #1 Paulsen went 11-21 (5-13) but some improvements were apparent.
  • Season #2, the team goes 20-12 (9-9) for the first Mason A-10 squad that doesn't end the year w/a losing record. Marquise Moore develops into a rebounding machine and Jenkins develops into a scorer.
  • Season #3, most reasonable fans expect a step back as the team has zero Seniors and just 2 Juniors on scholarship and lost 2 of its 3 best players. It manages to win 7 of its 11 final games (including @vcu & @St. Joe's & breaking the GW losing streak) as the team coalesces and ends up finishing 4th in the A10, it's the best finish ever.
  • Season #4, the team unexpectedly loses the first 3 games. Large chunks of message board fans act like stereotypical millennials and lose their sh!t.
So chill the F out. The 2005-06 Mason squad started out 1-2 and that included a 20-point home loss.

Whaaa???? As of December 2, Mason ranks 25th in RPI?? I like it that
Mason is 9-1, but I have to wonder, is RPI broken?

We were 119 on KenPom prior to the JSU game, for whatever that is worth.

It would be huge to win at TCU, but it’s not as critical this season because there will be numerous opportunities for Quad 1/2 wins in the A-10: vcu x2, Richmond x2, Dayton, URI, SLU, Davidson and Duquesne.

If we can’t beat some of the better teams in our own league — particularly the ones we get at home — we won’t deserve an at-large anyhow.

Avoid a banana peel in the next two games and at worst head into A-10 play at 11-2, and we’ve got a legit chance to play our way in. That’s all anyone can ask for.

Bump. Paulsen didn’t get the team ready for this game. From the tip we lost this one.
