"LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Easton and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recognized George Mason Softball as an Academic Team for the 2024 season, ranking the Patriots fourth out of over 150 eligible Division I schools.

To be recognized for the award, a Division I team must attain at least a 3.0 GPA throughout the entire 2023-24 school year.

According to the NFCA, the rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. NCAA Division I led the way with 2,573 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2023-24. NCAA Division III followed with 2,285 and NCAA Division II with 1,510. NAIA and junior colleges came in with 873 and 808 student-athletes respectively.

The Patriots, who earned their second consecutive President's Cup in the most recent Green and Gold Celebration, achieved a team GPA of 3.78, the highest mark of any George Mason team in the spring of 2024.

Seven individual members of the softball team were also named All-America Scholar-Athletes by Easton/NFCA. To be honored with the exclusive accolade, a student-athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above."

Dayton Chosen to Repeat as Atlantic 10 Softball Champions

WASHINGTON – The defending Atlantic 10 Champion Dayton were a near unanimous choice to repeat as league champions in 2025 according to the A-10 preseason poll, which was announced on Tuesday. The preseason poll was voted on by the ten league coaches.

Abbey Lane Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week - George Mason University Athletics

FAIRFAX, Va. – Freshman pitcher Abbey Lane has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the week of March 10th, 2025.

"This past weekend in the Patriots home tournament, Lane pitched 5.1 innings pitched and struck out a career-high seven batters. She surrendered two runs on two errors and six hits. Lane earned the save in the Patriots' second game against Longwood. She pitched three shutout innings with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Round Hill native ranks ninth in the Atlantic 10 conference for complete games (2). She also ranks second in the A-10 for saves (2), which ranks her 22nd in the nation. Lane currently has a 2.47 ERA and a 2-2 record. She has made 11 appearances on the year so far and leads the team in strikeouts with 22.

As a team, George Mason is currently 6-15 on the year. They rank first in the conference in triples (9), ranking them 20th nationally. The Patriots rank second in the A-10 in doubles (21), runs batted in (82), and total number of stolen bases (32)."
