Assistants move back and forth between P6 and mid majors all the time. If the Associate HC position was still available, then it would be a promotion.

Low assistants and video coordinators/recruiters make the move a lot, Skinn is currently the second assistant and probably is making more money than Simpkins is as our head assistant. Making that move would be a step down for him career wise.

Yes they absolutely can. Private schools provide scholarships and or financial aid

Skinn isn't leaving the Big East to take a similar position at Mason. Maybe Lamar Butler gets his shot?

Agreed. Although remember Simpkins was associate head coach last year, so I suspect even as the #2 guy he is making good money. I think the budget for assistants has grown a lot over the last year or so.

I have no idea how it compares to Skinn but I too would be surprised if he took the #2 position at Mason versus being the #2 at Seton Hall.

I just talked to a big player at DeMatha...seemed very high on Simpkins if that's the direction, said almost definitely top three candidate.

Said Jones had DI offers (head) before but a lot more money at play now, assistant big schools.

Man gives VT a great "current" pipeline in the area and through his USA Basketball work.

Will be interesting to see if Simpkins applies/gets it. Very sought after job...

Lol, I definitely didn’t mean to make it sound like I had a “big secret inside source”. A friend who is a huge VT fan and donor told me they were getting Jones on Thursday, and that Simpkins was most likely taking his spot as HC.

He doesn’t even know who Simpkins is, just that he heard he was a Mason Coach so he texted me to tell me and I shared.

Not his wife but I do believe he’s referred to her as his best friend. It was in one of the interviews he did since taking the Mason job.
