SI preview 2015-16

Making a couple of BIG leaps here. Outside of Thompson, Jenkins and Holloway (who looked awful on defense last two years) who do have that is talented? Not like we are bringing in four star kids.

Have you changed your tune already?

"Disagree with this, that was never the key to his success at Bucknell. This isn't Hewitt where we are hoping to get high rated recruits that mask any real coaching deficiencies. It's a process with Paulsen and I doubt he has a short lease here. I'm less interested in recruiting classes and more focused on the program's vision and competitiveness on the court each night."

Where in the quote do I mention we are a better than 12-14 team int he A-10 THIS SEASON? "It's a process".

I agree that no outsider or journalist should have much reason to predict us to be anything but near the bottom. We have one star, a bunch of unproven freshman and a crop of inconsistent upperclassmen, none of whom play the small forward position. Throw in a completely new system and we could be painful to watch. This is not meant to rip on any of our players or coaches, as I think we all believe we are finally headed in the right direction, but I don't blame anyone for predicting rough waters for us this year.

Great. So again, it's unfair and lazy to project this team 13th in the A10 because??????

It won't take 15 more wins to be better than 13th. Given how tightly bunched the A-10 standings usually are, even 5 additional wins could make the difference between 10th and 14th.

You also seem to ignore the reality that a number of other A-10 teams have just as many question marks as we do (or more). It's certainly within the realm of possibility that we could finish ahead of Saint Louis, Fordham, UMass, La Salle and Duquesne. That would put us in 9th.

But please, continue posting about how badly OUR players suck on OUR message board. It's a great look for our fan base, especially if recruits or their family members visit this site. Good job.

I agree that it's a process and it will take some time for the freshmen to develop. But, you clearly indicated that there were only 3 talented players on the roster and this is certainly unfair. Perhaps, you may want to change this opinion unless you have evidence to the contrary:

Oh good, we're back to the 'you're only a fan if you're a blind cheerleader' talk. It's a message board for christ sake, people have opinions. I personally think Holloway will have a great year in Paulsen's system but everyone is entitled expressing their own conclusions. This isn't the Patriot Club forum.

What it boils down to is which of our players from last season benefit from having a coach who actually has a system in place. Holloway I think could impress under a more disciplined coach. No way we lose 20 this season.

Hewitt left Ga Tech in shambles. He did the same for us. However, we are not without talent. But to expect a new coach to take players that have been "coached" by Hewitt and turn them into winners in one year is not realistic. I think Ga Tech fans are just hoping that by the year 2020 they might have purged the Hewitt virus from Atlanta. I have heard that some fans want to burn to the ground every building that Hewitt walked into. There is even talk of going all William T. Sherman again to all of Atlanta. It's the only way to be sure.

The good news is we aren't going up against Duke, UNC, Louisville and other ACC teams every night. Plus, I think we did a better job at hiring Hewitt's successor. Time will tell if I am right about that.

If you had any clue, you'd know that I am pretty much the furthest thing from a "blind cheerleader" on this board.

I just think it's disrespectful, false and unnecessary to post that our team has no talent other than Shevon on a Mason board.

Marquise Moore will end up being one of the best PG's in the A-10 this season. So there is one more guy to go along with Thompson, Holloway and Jenkins. In fact I think Moore ends up a bigger threat than Holloway on offense this season.

Watch and learn.

Moore, Holloway, Jenkins and POY candidate Thompson are a more than capable core of starters. If all of them can continue their improvement, and Holloway especially can make the senior leap, this team can be competitive/middle of the pack in the A10. Just need to find a few more guys amongst Royal, Marko and the newbie's to get to a 7 or 8 man rotation.

Redshirt two guys, and have Jenkins and Moore (and hopefully a juco) as the core of next years team to lead the young pups. Based on the roster, I actually expect us to be more competitive this year, rather than next.

Here's all I will say: This year we see the difference between awful and competent coaching. Now, how that translates into wins and losses, I'm not sure. However, I'm betting this team is better than most prognosticators are predicting.

This is the point those of us are making. We are not saying there will be a 18 or 20 win season, but the coaching will make us better. At least we will look at the product and see some semblance of college basketball.
