Regular Season Home Attendance

Our attendance blows and has for years. I don't know what the answer is.

I think there should be advertisements for the 3 and 6 game plans in the newspaper (I know, old school). If you look at games from a family perspective, a full season isn't cheap, but 3 Saturday games scattered throughout the season is.

Is there any kind of "Young Alumni" discount? If not, build the fan base by giving graduates season tickets at a substantial savings. It would also be nice to see the university advertise more on TV.

Young Alumni live in Arlington. And although its super close, it still takes way to long to get to EBA. Its a real hassle to watch the game. And the game is pricy.

Most fan's are attracted to the atmosphere rather than the game it's self. My finance has no desire to watch a redskins game, but she would love to go to the game. Its a fun experience bringing all the friends together.

Homecoming always draws a crowd because of all the festivities. Most people don't actually care about the game. I suggest having a Greek Night. Alumni get to come out and see their brother's and sisters, and watch a game.

Just food for thought.

Its all about the students. Current students are future season ticket holders.
go after student groups for biggest return on investment.
I would love to see a study on students as to why they don't attend regularly. Most of us old guys here can only speculate on why they don't..

I've got to imagine winning might be number one on that list? And there's always a lag when you go from a losing program to a winning program. Even next year, I'd have a hard time believing we're going to get crowds right away. The team has to prove it can be a consistent winner, especially at home (still too many home losses)

I wonder what percentage of seats in the student sections are filled vs. the number of seats everywhere else are filled?

Just win.

Even coming off the FF the place still felt empty. If we couldn't pack the place then we won't unless we win back to back national championships. With that said, the place at times this season seemed louder and more passionate than during the 2006-7 season.

they had a Greek night earlier in the season and I believe over 200 people that wouldn't normally attend the game attended... they need to appeal to the crowds that are most vital to the program growth (young alums). We have a group of about 10 that go and we have doubled since last year. The young alumni season tix are a great deal (I think so at least). but they need to do more

I for one hate the prices of tickets but after doing some thinking, I understand the ticket prices.

Even if you have an awesome deal, do you really expect that much bigger of a turn out. I would guess maybe an extra 2000 per game. And that's a big maybe.

$5.00 and 6000 people attend= $30,000
$10.00 and 6000 people attend= $60,000
$20.00 and 4000 people attend = $80,00

I started going to games as a freshman in 1998/99, I would bet money you could find a post from me on the old boards from about 15 years ago saying the exact same thing and really nothing has changed, even though we have had unprecedented success in that time (NCAA tournament in 99, 01, 06 (final four), 08, 11 and a few NIT appearances) and the amount of students attending and living on campus has significantly increased.

Getting students' butts in seats should be one of the top goals, b/c then they will turn into avid fans like myself and most people on here who do not need to be catered to (as much) in order to come out, but season tix, etc.

Build up an army of student interns working for free whose only job is to increase student attendance.

Honest question: How many games have you been to this year? Didn't you say at one point you don't attend because it costs too much?

They need to find a way to get more students in the seats (obviously, winning will help drive this). But, I think there should be a more purposeful effort from whoever leads the Patriot Platoon.

I feel like I am going to get bashed for my answer. But I went to two games.

Yes ticket prices are expensive, but frankly I also like watching the games at home better. However, I do want to go and show support.

No need to bash, and not bashing your answer. Its your choice.

However, when you say that tickets are expensive and you prefer watching games at home, but talking about why we can't get butts in the seats, its doesn't exactly come across well. How is preferring watching at home being part of the attendance solution that this thread has tried to talk about?

Again, not bashing, but this is at least how I'm reading what you're saying.
