I used to like GW fine, but then they were playing at the EBA/PC and one of their fans started yelling at one of our fans. I'm thinking "stay classy, GW." Now I know one GW fan doesn't represent all GW fans, but I don't recall any of us going up to a fan of another school and starting something with them.

The guy was a huge db but he could coach. Look where gw was and their past 3 seasons. This will def effect their season. Including they bring in 6 new players who fit his system.

Hewitt led us to a decent record in 2011-2012. Not saying its an apples to apples comparison, but I'd tend to think the real effects may be a year away. Might even make some of the players more relaxed now that the a-hole is gone. That said, I haven't followed this that closely. Did a bunch of players exodus before he got shitcanned?

Years ago I attended GMU's opener at Vermont. Lonergan was the coach of the Catamounts and Larranaga led Mason came away with an overtime victory. It was a great game but I recall being annoyed by Lonergan's comments in the Burlington, VT press the next day. He didn't give much credit to GMU and instead blasted his team, saying something to the effect of "it's not like George Mason is Duke or anything." Not his exact quote but you get the idea. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

That said, I remember wishing we got Lonergan instead of Hewitt in 2011. I'm surprised they fired him this close to the beginning of the season.

Burlington's a cool little city and I definitely recommend visiting BTW.

Lonergan is a dick with poor interpersonal skills who alienated many local HS/AAU coaches with his arrogance.

GW's DMV recruiting already had started to suffer because so many coaches had no use for his attitude.

Now this scandal, which appears to be far from over, has the potential to render their program lifeless for the foreseeable future.

I feel badly for the young men who committed to play for Lonergan, but hopefully they will be able to transfer out and find new coaches who aren't lunatics.

The players are the only victims in this sordid mess.

Right but they just won the NIT. Surely there's enough talent there to drag them at least a respectable season, even if they get a bystander like Hewitt. My point is they won't just instantly be a dumpster fire program.

I wasn't saying anything about them, just us in 2011-2012. GW will be solid next year no matter what. Now two or three years down the road might be different, but next year they should be solid.

I would generally agree - but it looks like there might be a hemoraghing of talent taking place in response to all of this
