All kids graduate from high school now with 4.0+, very confident of themselves, but no critical thinking skills. However, their STEM skills are way beyond what my generation possessed.

I think you guys are also forgetting that SATs have changed and added a section as well.

Writing is optional.

They did get rid of contextless vocab in favor of language and grammar rooted in writing. The math goes passed geometry now though.

I'll have to see what its like for my niece who is 16 and will be taking the SATs the upcoming year.

And yes, she may look at Mason. You can thank me for instilling that in her since the age of 3.

(She also likes telling me she is going to vcu, but thats besides the point).

https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/practice/full-length-practice-tests Go for it!

The SAT verbal and math sections look a lot more like the ACT than they used to. The ACT still has science whereas the SAT doesn't (but I'm pretty sure the Science section is optional in the same way the SAT's writing is -- I could be wrong about that).

Wow. Maybe he should have done a little background research. Strips a ton of confidence just as he is getting started

I mean, is he wrong? He takes the job and then COVID hits and he's got to reopen the campus safely and with revenue losses and economic hit and the political environment all at the same time? It IS a tough environment to be in your first year as a president. I don't know what GMU's campus looks like this fall, but ASU is D-E-A-D -- it's actually kind of nice being able to walk around without crowds, but it's also pretty sad. At least GMU's enrollment grew 2 percent (probably due to NOVA kids staying home -- we'll see how many stay), ASU's enrollment dropped 11% (probably due to California kids and international students not coming).

We'll see how he handles it. BIG test in his first year.

His answer about the namesake seemed pretty spot on to me.

Walter, I'd delete the slam on his "grammar" if I were you -- just my two cents.

I thought long and hard about whether I should post this or not. But, for a president of a university to use improper grammar on national TV is embarrassing. I asked myself if I would have posted this if a white president had said it? Absolutely.

I have no doubt that he is a smart man. I was encouraged when I learned that he has an engineering background. And, I too, thought overall it was a pretty good news story that could have been good PR for GMU.

Wow...I figure now would be the time and opportunity to jump at a place like Mason.

Yeah there's a pandemic...but this is where you make a name for yourself. Guide the ship thru rough waters. Show your skills.

Anybody can take over a great situation and look good.

Well....unless you're Paul Hewitt.

I listened to the interview President Washington did with Marcella Robertson on the BAC Instagram page. I won't discuss his thoughts on current events. You can listen yourself, if you care. But, HE LOVES BASKETBALL. He was at NC State when they were good at basketball (I assume the Jimmy V days). Huge fan of Michael Jordan and Lebron James. He didn't say anything about Mason basketball, but he wasn't asked. Marcella let us down there.

My alma mater (Penn State) is tied with Rutgers & UConn for 23rd & 63rd among public universities & national universities, respectively. Of course, it was founded in 1855 and has a $2.4 billion endowment, so we have a little head start over George Mason.

I see Mason's endowment is just shy of $100 million, a few years ago it was barely cracking $50 million. Endowment growth should be a priority for President Washington. So much can be done for students, faculty, and research with a robust endowment.
