NIT Bracketology

Those rules don't even make any sense. If they're going to experiment with the rules, why not just use the NBA's rules, or FIBA? Why make it this confusing?

No kidding, I can see it now, people in the arena watching a game, look at the scoreboard and see the team foul count reset and wonder, what the hell and blame the scoreboard operator.

I am starting to think it is a matter of time before the men's game goes to quarter play instead of halves.

GIVING DAY 2023
I did a quick breakdown of the teams on the NIT bracketology report.

RPI:
Range: 34 (Illinois St)- 124(Mississippi St)
Average RPI: 72
Mason: 114

Records:
Range: 13-11 (Georgia)- 20-5 (Illinois St.)
Average 15-9
Mason D1 Record- 16-8

The average RPI for the remaining 6 games is 91. Not exactly sure how the RPI system works so I won’t even try to speculate where we will end up at the end of the season. But Mason has the opportunity to have 3 top 50 wins in the season. URI, Dayton, vcu.

vcu and URI might even be top 25 by the time we play them

Obviously it’s a long shot, but sure is fun to think about.

25% Mason's win percentage/50% Mason's opponent's win percentage/25% Mason's opponents opponents win percentage

Our RPI can proably only rise as the meat of the formula is opponent win percentage and it's gonna rise with vcu, Dayton and URI coming up. Took a decent bump up after Davidson as well because they had a really diffifult OOC.

GIVING DAY 2023
Win the three home games and we end up with an RPI around 100.
Steal a road win at GW and we get into the 85-90 range.
Beat vcu or Dayton on the road as well, and we end up around 75-80.
Win out and we get up to the 65-70 range

We probably need 5 more wins (including at least 1 in the A10 tourney) to have a shot at the NIT. In fact, beating a bottom feeder like SLU in Pittsburgh and then losing to Dayton (for example) could lower our RPI.
