Yup, didn't realize the distinction between mini-camp invite and participation in summer league, unfortunately it looks like he didn't make the cut.

Here is the exact language from the Mason announcement: Shevon Thompson has received a mini-camp invite from the New Orleans Pelicans. Thompson will participate in the team’s practices July 5-6 in New Orleans with the hopes of joining the Pelicans’ Summer League roster in Las Vegas.

BA played again last night, 17 minutes, 1-2 shooting. It looks like the Sixers didn't bring back 3-5 players that played w them in Utah, they decided to have a few young roster players play like Jeriam Grant and Nik Stauskas. Great to see Bryon Allen make it through the "round of cuts", but I doubt it means a whole lot in the big picture for him.

Whatever it is, it's a good experience for him. And at the very least maybe a little leverage for his next euro contract.

BA actually impressing me a bit but he has absolutely no chance of making it. not nearly athletic enough.

I agree BA is a real long shot to make it in the league, but not because of his athleticism. That's probably his best asset. Guy would have been playing Sundays as a free safety if he'd decided to go that direction. His decision making, lack of court vision and erratic shooting will keep him out of the league, his athleticism is what has at least given him a chance.

^^^^^^^ reading comprehension is key. He was one of 25 competing at a mini camp for 14-18 summer league spots where out of the 14-18 like 4-6 make the actual roster... BA actually impressing me a bit but he has absolutely no chance of making it. not nearly athletic enough. Shevon had no chance from the beginning despite what many homers said..... Dudes on this site talking about Shevon getting drafted early second round. Are you kidding me?

BA is an athletic freak. His athletic ability is why he is giving a chance. His jump shot is what is going to hold him back

Basically because he can't play the one. He might be a good athlete, but these 6'6 guards are insane freaks.

I think athleticism has lots of different components. Regarding BA, he's not a great leaper and doesn't necessarily have elite top end speed, but he has a great combination of strength (with a solid build) and explosive quickness, which is why he's always been adept at getting to the rim and finishing through contact despite his lack of traditional size for a wing player/slasher.

It's basically a lack of size or length to be a 2 (he's no less athletic than Kent Bazemore, for instance, but Bazemore is both taller and freakishly long and so would have a easier time defending on the wing in the NBA).

I disagree that he's as athletic all-around as Bazemore. But yes, he doesn't have the size or length to defend the NBA 2 effectively, and would get killed on switches. I think if he were a lights-out 3-point shooter in addition to his slashing ability, an NBA team would be more willing to take on his defensive liabilities. I'm certainly rooting for him, though. He's one of my favorite guys to play for Mason in the last decade. Unselfish, hard-working, and just an all-around good dude.

Has anyone heard of anything for Shevon? There has to be an overseas team that is showing interest right?
