Amen. And now we must start from scratch.

The better Coach L does down there, the more I like Chris Caputo as a possible candidate to return to Mason when Hewitt leaves. In fact, I'm surprised his name hasn't surfaced more in the discussions here. It's only a matter of time before Chris is hired somewhere, might as well be the place he cut his teeth as an assistant.

Don't forget "offensive coordinator" Eric Konkol.

But would they get OCM's blessing to come back? I can see them waiting out for something comparable and OCM helping them find it.

Just like they all jumped to leave right? Loyalty goes a long way in this case. Gmu could very well be black balled from the L coaching tree. I dont believe OCM wanted to leave Mason. I do believe TOC left him hanging with the middle finger raised. And for that, he will foever be remember as the AD repsonsible for the programs demise.

I don't buy this for a minute. There's no chance that if either of those 3 assistants is in the running for this job that they would turn it down because of how the Coach L thing went down. Even though its hard to tell now, there is a ton of potential for this program to get back on track quickly and we play in a strong conference that regularly earns at-large bids. Also with all those possiblely responsible for Coach L leaving (TOC, Merten) gone, I see no reason for anyone to have hard feelings towards this place.

TOC is gone, so any bad blood Coach L had toward him has to be gone as well. His beef was with the AD and president who wouldn't keep giving him raises, not the university itself. With TOC and Merten no longer at the school, Coach L has no reason to hold a grudge.

You don't know that. Wasn't assistant salaries part of the reason they all left? That could have been a decision BOV members made that are still here.

They all left because the head man got a new job and took them all along for the ride. I could be wrong but I think Hewitt's coaches are paid more than L's were back in the day.

Damn right! Never forget the damage O'Connor did to us.

Ironic isnt it? Why not pay caputo and konkol etc and keep the program going? Bc someone has an ego problem.

GS, all posturing aside, do you honestly think anything would have stopped Caputo, Konkel and Huger from following Coach L to Miami? Not only are they getting more money at Miami than they ever would as assistants at Mason, but they are coaching in a more competitive and higher profile conference — and they get to live in frickin' Miami!

Tom, im not questioning their following of L. I said to pay them like L wanted while he was here complaining about his assistants' pay. Perhaps that and a few other things would of kept the band here.

Ah, ok. You could be right that paying them more might have helped, but I think Coach L was more upset about not making Shaka money. When TOC and Merten said no to yet another raise, he got pissed and sought out the Miami job. I don't begrudge Coach L or anybody for getting what they can, but I don't think he was the victim some people here paint him out to be.

L didn't want to leave so he picked up a phone and called Miami when he heard their job was opening? OK. Even using it as leverage he should have known we didn't have the money to pay him 1.5 million a year without jacking up student fees to pay for it.
