Mens Volleyball heating up

Sorry for reposting but not sure how often people check the "other Mason sports" Board:

Men's volleyball had an amazing weekend sweeping #15 St. Francis and then beating #9 PSU for the 1st time in 8 years 3-1 to vault up to the #2 seed in the conference.

Mason plays Harvard in the tournament semi's on Thursday at 5pm (top 4 teams make conference tournament, all games played at PSU).

Looks like the move to hire a PSU assistant is paying off! 5 players named all conference and Coach of the Year.

There are far fewer Men's Volleyball teams in NCAA Division I than basketball, winner of the conference tournament will go to NCAA Tournament which consists of only 6 teams. Top 2 teams get byes and the next 4 play in play in games to make it to the final 4 (I think).

Each year Mason is typically eliminated by PSU, so the fact they beat them this year and have been extremely hot as of late (after a brutal start to the season against several top 5 teams), bodes well.

Agreed, especially if they make it to the NCAA's - they will likely have already played most of the other 5 teams.

They will play the winner of St. Francis/PSU - the two teams they beat last weekend. St. Francis won earlier in the year at PSU also.

WOW! The Penn State dynasty falls!

Mason hasn't made the NCAA tournament since 1988, while PSU has only missed the tournament twice since then (1990 and 1998).

It's hard to believe it's been that long. We had a heck of a team back then...even had a few matches at the Pat Dome if I remember correctly.

EIVA champs. Top 6. My guess is that we'll be seeded toward the bottom of that group, given the number of matches lost early season--apparently top 2 teams get byes. But it's close to making the final 4 in MBB. Only many fewer Div 1 teams in VB
