IMO this Vision campaign seemed very rushed and out of nowhere. 150 donors to mens basketball is pretty bad. For a school with 30K students and 100K's of alums.... should be way more. Maybe asking for a specific amount $5, or $10, from young alumni, or to alums who have never donated before...would get more people donating.
Also, don't think it's a good time of the year. Economy still bad, some NOVA people don't have jobs recently, just got done with basketball season where a lot of our fans shelled out money to go see the teams play in the post-season, Spring Breaks are going on in March and April where families are going places for vacations, Tax season, etc.
Don't think asking for money now is a great time frame.
I'm assuming these are just individual donors as well? Don't see any companies listed.
WTF don't we go after companies. Hey Banditos, McAllister's Deli, Velocity Wings, Oh George, Fat Tuesdays... can you spare $100 for our Bball initiatives.... our crowds have patronized your places for years.... can you all give back some? Not hard to send someone over to University Mall one day and go door to door asking for money. No shame in it. We need money and there are 3-4 people who's sole jobs at Mason are for generating funds.
Then there's more commercial and enterprise companies..... Hey Booz Allen, PWC, Raytheon.... we have sent you all a lot of grads to work for you.... how about a $1K donation. Doesn't have to be revolutionary, just something to get us going and opens the doors for future talks. We need to get our foots in the doors of these companies and then build upon the relationships.
Our staffs vision needs to be going after more big fish for this type of campaign. 150 single donors is not gonna cut it, even if it is just a 24 hour campaign.
No offense to anyone.... just tired of Mason doing Mason shit. Same ol' same ol.
