best players don't always mean good captains lol. I am not sure why this is such a hard concept to grasp and why people keep bringing it up. Some people just aren't captains....

Did you ever start on a varsity sport? Captains don't have to be vocal. They lead by example. If you played a varsity sport you would have known that.

Just because he isn't captain doesn't mean that he isn't a leader...he basically becomes a leader because hes a senior on a young squad anyway. Paulsen tweeted the other day that he never misses class and is a joy to coach, pretty sure that is leading by example being a senior..

You are mind numbing all the time... I played more varsity sports than you played sports as a kid..

Marquise got a shoutout last night at the end of ECU vs. CofC game. The in studio analyst was highlighting the best players nationally so far this season and Marquise earned the "undersized overperformer award" or something of that nature. Showed some of his highlights and he talked him up a bit..pretty cool.

Freezing outside today. Lucky DJ3 is letting me wear his letterman jacket (I only date VARSITY athletes, boys-- get lost with your JV nonsense ;)).

Pretty sure I'm getting homecoming dance invite soon!

I understand your concept, it's not difficult to grasp. But as we finished the OOC, I would wager the freshman look up to Moore more than they do Otis. And in my opinion that's what a captain is all about.

I would of liked Paulsen to have just named his captains instead of having a vote especially this year with so many freshman. Moore and Jenkins have earned it.

Unfortunately Moore is a silent leader and the 5 freshman didn't have a chance to realize Moore is someone to look up too. Practices/ Plays at 100 percent everytime.

If players had a chance to vote today, I would be shocked if he wasn't named a captain.

Well if you ask me, i think it worked out in our favor. Maybe not making him a captain fueled the way he's playing. He is really playing like a guy who's trying to prove a point. Like I said in my earlier post about this topic, some leaders lead by example, and Moore's rebounding has been contagious. The Damn whole team is crashing the boards like there's no tomorrow. We have out rebounded each team in the last ten games with an average height of 6"3 amazing. This is called leading by example!!!!!!

I don't believe it's as big of an issue as people are making it out to be. Yes, being a captain means you are a vocal leader on and off the court or you display leadership with your work ethic etc...but the official title of captain is merely a label. Seniority doesn't necessarily determine a leader (see Birdsong) nor does pure talent. It's something that the leader knows and his team knows. Everything else you mentioned is purely speculation.

I have no doubts that the coaches and players including Marquise are very happy with the current captains.

http://gomason.com/news/2016/11/10/...s-and-livingston-ii-captains.aspx?path=mbball:

"Fairfax, Va.—Senior Jalen Jenkins and sophomore Otis Livingston II have been elected captains of the 2016-17 George Mason men's basketball team by their teammates and coaching staff. 'We're excited for Jalen and Otis to serve as this year's captains,' said Coach Dave Paulsen. "They have both worked hard and have embraced their positions as leaders. They have different personalities and styles and should complement each other well.'"
