Let's play a game...

Louis Orr, head coach at Bowling Green. It worked last time for GMU.

That guy could certainly defend in the NBA...

I wish Mark Turgeon hadn't signed an eight-year, and/or MD gets tired of him right around Hewitt's 5-year end...

Since James Johnson and Bill Courtney and several other of our choices are flaming out, would they still be candidates (assuming it's a new AD that makes the choice?) for us and you guys?

Jollay, I always find your wit and sarcasm hilarious, but, I must admit I am confused as of late by your posts. Are you just having fun at the expense of those that had originally pushed for some of those other candidates? Are you implying we should keep our current coach because other coaches have not panned out? I value your opinion so if you were making a point, I'd like to get it.

If I am sort of understanding where Jollay is coming from based on all his posts of late it is in defense of the AD and not the coach (I think).

No ulterior motives with this one...just curious. I personally would still hire Courtney but not Johnson. I'm just assuming if TOC is still here (which I do hope) the question is moot since he presumably wouldn't hire an L guy...

I like Bill Courtney. But, if he doesn't turn things around at Cornell, why would TOC or any AD be interested in him as a head coach?

I doubt anyone would; he would probably have to return to assistant coach purgatory for a while. But if I were AD, I would.

On a side note, support me for AD whenever TOC leaves. Gave El Presidente my resume on a Brion's napkin a few weeks ago.

Probably blasphemy around here but . . . Gary Williams.

Would never happen but as long as we are just throwing out names.

Hewitt will be here next season - book it.

As much as I think you're right, if we go O-for in conference play then I definitely don't think it's a "book it." You can't go winless, give a team it's worst season in 15 years and expect to be a complete lock for your job. Not that I don't think it's beyond Tom O-for'Connor's judgement to keep him on should that happen, but it should at least raise doubts.

Had JA stayed, AND we went 0-16 in A10, then he would of gotten canned. JA leaving the team prob gave him a free year. If TOC was smart, he'd hold him accountable for his first two years of roster mismanagement.

I don't have a problem with Hewitt getting a 4th season, provided he makes a significant change to his coaching staff.

I know he would probably never do it, but preferably someone who would tell Hewitt, "WTF are you doing, we need to be doing this." mid-game or at halftime. This has been mentioned before, but he needs someone who can help with in-game situations, x's and o's, and adjustments.

I agree something needs to be done to shake things up if you aren't going to fire the head coach, but I think canning assistants can be tricky. I'm not talking about from a strategy standpoint, because we obviously need help there; but more so from the aspect that the assistants are oftentimes closer to the players than the head coach due to the relationships they built through the recruiting process.

When Joe Harrington was our head coach, there was no question that Rick Barnes was closer to the players as an assistant, because he was responsible for signing almost all of them. I'm not saying any of our assistants are remotely as good as Barnes or that they shouldn't be canned, but it is an example of how attached the players can get to assistants.

If we do get rid of somebody, Houston seems like the best option. I don't see that happening, though, until his nephew's eligibility is up.

I agree with Tom that firing assistants can be tricky due to their effect on recruiting. I'd say get rid of at least one assistant, preferably Houston. I would like to see some life on the bench from the assistants, granted Hewitt probably doesn't listen to half of what they say, it'd still be nice to see someone constantly in Hewitt's ear. I'm tired of seeing somewhat lifeless coaches on the bench.

Would there be enough justification and budget that with the move to the A-10, that they could get an additional coach to come in and help? I see many other programs have at least 4 assistants. I know they have Scott Lombardi as an "operations" guy and another guy is there for "player development", but maybe there can be justification for another "assistant coach".

I remember a game when Wade Houston was the coach at Tennessee. He was a horrible coach. Well, Tennessee was behind by 1 point to Kentucky - the #2 team in the country at the time - and Houston called time out with a few seconds left to set up a play. He drew out the play. Al Brown - one of his assistants - sees the play and grabs the clip board and says, "We aren't going to do that! We are going to run this play." They won. Maybe Hewitt should hire Al Brown.

Maybe "Assistant Coach Coach" so he can coach our assistant coaches how to be better coaches.

When did Arledge become such a program changer? Really?

Some on here are acting like if Arledge stayed, we would have a much more succesful year so far. Some have even said, we may ave had 5 or 6 more wins if he were still on the team.

Sorry, don't buy it. Arledge does not have enough skills to overcome the Hewitt factor.

I don't know about much more successful, but Arledge is undoubtedly a big loss. I'd love to have seen him and Jenkins on the court. Two forwards that can score consistently would be nice. I think we'd have had a few more wins with him around. At the same time, Arledge's absence is no excuse for tanking the way we have.
