Willing to bet Florida or one of the other P5s on his list (NC State?) wants to see him against elite competition before taking a commitment from him.

JF said he wasn’t going to commit until the spring anyhow so now he gets to show what he can do with a year at one of the best prep programs in the nation.

He had so many P5 offers he rejected. Maybe he’s trying to get some attention from a blue blood. A Duke or UNC or a Kansas?

Or maybe he just wants to grow and develop his game at a top 5 national school, playing against a ridiculous schedule with more talented teammates, and it has nothing/little to do with exposure...

Believe me, assistants at the majors monitor all these guys closely. Those at Duke are well aware of any of the kids anyone in the ACC is looking at...

Like many I'm not getting my hopes up, but English has already showed that he is capable of pulling in some talent from the transfer market and getting Dinkins for 2022 was a great pull already. Whether he gets Fernandez or not, getting Rivals top 150 kids to consider Mason at this point is a very good thing.

Will he reel in Fernandez at this point? I wouldn't hold my breath, but there's certainly a chance albeit a 5-10% chance. I agree with others that going to IMG Academy is probably more about his game as a whole than getting more offers. Perhaps some schools in his top 10 want to see a little bit more from him, or he just wants to play at a higher level for a year to improve himself. Either way, I'm rooting for the kid.

He has a ton of offers. He just wants to play at a higher level his senior year. The question is, will he want to come here and build something, or go to Florida, or an ACC school and MAYBE help them.

IMG is no joke. If he can succeed there, his stock will only go up and more of the big boys will come after him. It's going to take a coup and effort of Herculean proportions for KE to get JF's signature come signing day. I remember reading "we beat out X-ACC school" or "we beat our Y-Big East school" for certain recruits - and maybe that's true to SOME degree. Probably because our recruit knew they were a second or third option at that bigger school. But this would be the first time we've TRULY beat out bigger schools for a universally sought after prospect.

Yes, it's like Folarin Campbell saying he was going on an official to Georgetown and right before he went, someone playing his same position committed to them...it's that kind of "beating out" we've had in the past.

IMG is the type of "no joke" that produced big names, such as Kam Murrell and Danny Dixon. I get that it is supposed to be this elite sports academy and that plenty of really good players have gone there over the years. I have a bit of a personal gripe with them after some of my students transferred there over the years. But IMO, don't make too much of that decision. Fernandez is a high major prospect with or without attending IMG.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there are multiple boys basketball teams at IMG....Some obviously more "elite" than others.

This is true... and you can see in the below that there are even "several varsity teams." I'm sure there's 1 that's much better than the others.
