If you follow Cabrera on twitter he is a total leftist - nothing in the center from him.

Disagree. Cabrera is entitled as an American to speak his mind. He has made the choice to speak his mind on some issues, and there are some I'm sure he's chosen not to. Agree with his thinking or not, if there is a policy that would substantially effect the enrollment at Mason it would be irresponsible for Cabrera not to address it.
I actually agree with him on the policy. And of course he has the right to an opinion, doesn't mean there aren't right and wrong ways to go about it. I'm not sure it's an appropriate use of email. He could have sent it to those effected. My problem is it's things like this that give credence to the idea that universities are just left-wing think tanks. His email wasn't solely about those who would be affected, there was a lot of opinion in there. But I digress, I'm more just frustrated I now have to listen to friends complain that Mason is some crazy leftist commune for the next few days.

Just point out to them the name of our law school. And the fact that the university regularly gets Koch money for those who support free-market economics.

Congress will act. Otherwise, prepare for 30% increase in food alone.

A university that just named its law school after Antonin Scalia is a "left-wing think tank?"

I certainly don't think so. Others point to things like this though. Mason is actually pretty well balanced from what I can tell, although I didn't take classes across all humanities.

Politics were mentioned in certain classes for me. I was an econ undergrad, and those classes tended to lean more libertarian. In some of the others it was very liberal to the point of almost being a parody of college liberal leanings. I also started in Engineering and none of those classes involved anything but logic and rational thinking, so they tended to lean right as well.

Speaking of the practice facility, I'm not sure if this has already appeared on the boards, but I peeked into the Cage gym this afternoon and it looked like it might be pretty close to done. The baskets were in place as was the scoreboard. Although some work was being done on the floor, it looked pretty close with the jump circle markings in place (I think). Not sure where the team is currently practicing--they were in the old Linn gym during the summer, but I haven't looked in there recently.

So long as somebody does not express their opinion with violence I'm ok with it. I don't think there is a bad time to speak your mind. It's like Colin Kaepernick and his peaceful protest not being the "right time." Or Tommie Smith in 1968 not being the "right time." Or NWA using music to talk about police brutality not being the "right place". Or maybe it's just a case of if somebody says something you disagree with there is never a good time for them to express their opinion.

As far as us being a leftist, communist, brain washing university public schools will always have that rep. The Koch Brothers basically own Wichita State University, and they're still called some leftist school.

Or maybe just bring conciseness. I have no problem with Cabrera voicing his opinion and as long as he lets professors and administrators who might disagree with him voice their's then its all good.

Of course everyone appreciates a short email - regardless of content.
