Also Dave’s offense generated plenty of wide open looks for Grayer and Boyd from the wings.

Again I will be stunned if the offense doesn’t look much different and play far more to our current players’ strengths.
I believe that was for spring sports but I could be wrong

Not what I’ve heard. Was told the ball is in the NCAA’s court.

https://www.athleticscholarships.net/2012/07/17/how-get-medical-redshirt.htm:

"All of these must be proven with documentation. That means medical documentation to prove the injury and that it was season-ending and participation information to show that the student-athlete did not play in too many contests.

This documentation is normally pulled together by the compliance office and training room. Some conferences require the athlete to submit a statement or letter as part of the request. There are cases where athletes need to take a more active role though. Most common are when an athlete transfers before getting the waiver or when an athlete received a second opinion on an injury."

"Take Care of Business Quickly on Your End

If you do need to complete a task to help prepare your medical hardship waiver, make it a priority. Some conferences have time limits on when waivers can be submitted, plus delays will add to your stress. This is especially important for athletes nearing the end of their eligibility."

2% chance that happens. AJ at 4 and Body by Oduro at 5.

My lineup would be XJ, Greene, Miller, AJ, Oduro.

Boyd is a career 6th-8th man and should stay that way. no need to reinvent the wheel with him

If you think Boyd is coming back to be a 6th man on this team I'd think again. He had a sitdown with the coaches and they see him starting day 1.

Oduro will come in when AJ or Miller gets a foul or 2.

Kier is not coming back.... been saying this for weeks. Move on people.

I will bet you $100 right now Boyd doesn't start unless Javon, AJ, or Miller transfer out. We can give it to @mkaufman1 who we all like in Venmo to hold. Boyd is not a starter on this team with the roster they current project. up to you sir. I don't even think Boyd is that good but that isn't even the point here

Your arrogance is funny. Boyd will be a starter on this team Day 1. He's not coming back to ride the bench and be a 6th man. He's already had a discussion about how they plan on using him next year.

I don't want your money.... go donate that $100 to 29 Diner's charity.

I generally agree with this. But I think Boyd was on the cusp of earning a starting role before the wrist injury 2 seasons ago. I get that’s a long time ago. Just food for thought.

I also prefer him off the bench but I wouldn’t be surprised if paulsen starts him game 1 at least. Paulsen takes forever to finalize his lineups.

If you want Miller at the 4 and AJ at the 5 you really don't understand how basketball works these days. If you think Boyd starts regardless than that probably means he starts over Javon or Miller and he is better than neither of them. Boyd is a great 6th-8th man nothing more nothing less when healthy. Lets not act like we just got Kier to come back for a 5th year. We didn't. Since you don't want my money how about you match a $100 donation to Mason basketball next season if you are wrong Day 1 and the roster stays as it is. This is a bad take.

It would not be good being undersized at the 4 and 5 spots again...just don't understand why we'd do that when we don't have to just to shoehorn Boyd in as a starter. If Ibi Watson can stand to be the 6th man when he would have started on pretty much every other A-10 team, Boyd can play 24+ mpg coming off the bench for multiple players.

I think it’s possible Boyd starts, but he’s going to have to beat out Miller or Greene to do it. Regardless he gives us another veteran who makes the roster deeper and better.

Boyd is definitely starting.

We need shooters. Boyd, Miller, XJ.

Stretch 4 AJ

5 oduro.

That’s the only way he starts. Paulsen has to play a traditional 5 or we experience some of the woes we had this year. He won’t beat out miller or Greene unless Greene keeps the issues with paulsen that he had late season and or leaves. He better not leave. Kid is way too important

I don't think Boyd would be great defensively at the 2 spot. He struggles keeping shiftier guards in front of him, and maybe Miller could guard down a spot, but I think that depends on how good of a handle the opposing SG has. Unless XJ becomes demonstrably better guarding the 1, you can't leave Greene on the bench in that scenario either.

Most importantly I don’t see the staff playing AJ at the 5 at all next year — he’s not coming back to Mason to play out of position, he wants to showcase his shooting and ball skills for the next level.

Having Malik gives us another option at the 5 if teams try to go small against us. Shouldn’t be any need for AJ to play anywhere but the 4.

Agreed. Javon is our second-best two-way player and absolutely critical to having a good season.

I feel extremely confident that the staff wants to do right by AJ ... he has a chance to have a monster season but we shouldn’t have to rely on him getting beaten up in the post anymore. He’s a 4, plain and simple.

A lot of opinion has been offered about his return. For his career Boyd is a 40.8% shooter overall. 29.9% from 3, although his percentage has improved each year. 72% from the charity stripe. 3 rebounds and .9 assists per game. He averaged 5.9 ppg as a freshman, 7.7 ppg as a soph, and 5.2 ppg as a junior, yes I know he was injured and that limited his productivity and effectiveness. Over his career he has averaged 20 minutes per game. That is the production returning. It will be interesting to see how he fits into the equation for next year.
