I mean, you certainly don't see people sitting around with beer before football games at UMD, or Tech, or wine spritzers and zimas at UVA games. I'm sure that has nothing to do with draw.
FIFY

The point is that there is absolutely no need for it, as there is no shortage of spots. What would encourage the most people to come would be to block off all of lot K and say "come one, come all!"
Absolutely no need for pre-registration for a parking lot that always has plenty of spots and is otherwise free to park in and no amenities are provided related to the amount of people coming. The charcoal thing still drives me nuts as well...
Reminds me of when my fraternity used to tailgate in the middle of a generally empty parking lot when we sucked in the early to mid-90's.
Literally there would be nobody there, it would be 20 degrees, and Mason cops would harass us because we had some beer.
Nothing builds interest in a program like harassing the die-hards. (I am one of those)
Thanks! That is what I assumed as well, but where did you see you get the money back? I just see "refundable deposit". To me that could mean multiple things. Just hate paying for something I already pay for in another lotI'm pretty sure you get the money back by showing up and having your ticket scanned in. You won't be legally able to tailgate outside of the official tailgate area because the school gets an ABC permit for the tailgate area, so you will be open to being cited for open container if drinking outside the area.
Ah, so you have to pay before they tell you that you get it back...got itFrom the fine print on the eventbrite page once you click register:
"Deposit will be refunded to tailgaters that check-in on the day of the event."
Guessing a lot of people will be losing their $15 since the weather forecast says it's going to be about 7 degrees and windy.

Why I stopped signing up for February tailgates years ago. 7 degrees with wind chill is actually dangerous. We've got to come up with a better idea.

Technically speaking, alcohol thins blood making heat loss more likely. BUT, Bailey's in Hot Coco ain't half bad. Chilli sounds good too. It's not dangerous if you drink enough to stay warm.
More global warming?
Seriously, they should do homecoming much earlier in the season...maybe the first home game after the holiday tournament? This year that would have been November 28 against Wright State.
