Walk-On
Anyone have any insight on what day Homecoming 2017 will be? It will either be on the 4th or 11th of February but I need to schedule work accordingly. Yes, I know its a few months away but I work for a baseball team and that is prime time for us to push hard for the upcoming season.

Thank's ya'll!

That late? isn't it normally the second weekend in February because the last two years Valentines Day has fallen on that weekend. I may be wrong though as well. I don't have connections in Program Board anymore so I can't contact them to find out.

People on here had said the 18th but I can't remember what thread that was discussed in.

Still think it's incredibly dumb to not have it be in November (when it's warmer) against an exciting out of conference opponent that will draw people

Hmmm interesting! I'll do a search through the threads and see if I can find that! thanks for the help any how!

Ehh I kinda agree about being in November but with all of the holidays and what not it's kinda more expensive for people to travel ya know? Like for myself being in Sacramento I would never be able to afford to fly during the holiday season for Homecoming. But to each their own!

I understand, Spring homecoming just feels sort of off though.

I'm assuming it will be URI on 2/18 because they have been consistently making it on President's Day weekend, which is a reason why a lot of people I know consistently miss homecoming every year and yet they keep doing the same thing.

I've always gotten the impression that the powers that be at Mason aren't all that geeked up about Homecoming. Kinda became clear when Merten tried to direct us all to a teeny-tiny wine tent to sip Zinfandel, a plan which was thwarted by the FSC.

Or when you are charged a "refundable" deposit for a homecoming parking spot (when there are hundreds of unused spots each year), show up with your printed reservation in hand, they can't find your registration, make you wait a half hour before you just say "I'm going in, thanks for nothing", and then never get refunded your money because you were never checked in. And then get harassed the whole time about having bottles in your car that you pour into solo cups, which tent you can stand in during the 20 degree weather, etc. MASON HOMECOMING - YEAH!!! I'm going skiing this year, screw it.

Well that sounds terrible.

I imagine that I'll attend the game, but that is about it. We stopped attending the tailgating events years ago when my father's health couldn't take the freezing temps.

I attended the alumni tent which was moved inside the JC Center. It was great. Warm, met good people, booze and food.

I never enjoyed the Homecoming "tailgates" as a student. You always felt you were being watched and would be thrown in the loony bin with one wrong move. Also - freezing. Second class experience.

I've always resisted doing the tent because I love tailgating (and own all the equipment), but each year this becomes more and more attractive.

I believe the 1999 Bonfire tragedy at Texas A&M kinda put an end to that everywhere.
I'm not sure what happened at Texas A&M, sounds sad. However, my high school managed to do a bonfire every home coming. I'm sure a university can figure out how to safely operate a bonfire.

A&M's wasn't as much a bonfire as it was a sacrifice to the gods. The fire wasn't the problem, the stacking to the moon was.
