GIVING DAY 2023
I've got mixed feelings about Dave. He seems like a genuinely good guy with an eye for talent who is a good recruiter and must be a decent coach.
After all, the man did win a Natty.
At the same time, he just doesn't seem to be able to win at a higher level, and the continued "next year" mantra just seemed like excuse making.
I wish him well, and hope he turns HC around.
I think we all have mixed feelings about him. We all see what hes done, what he did at Mason and appreciate that. Its nice he won a national title at the D3 level but that is a long time ago already.

That being said, since leaving Bucknell his body of work is mediocre, no NCAA appearances and generally hovering around .500. However, since he lost two key assistants that were with him at Bucknell and a long time (Aaron Kelly and Dane Fischer) his record has really been bad (since 2019) overall. All you need to do is look at his NET rankings and Kenpom the first two years, and they show that things have been ugly for him. He hasn't had the ability to build a team that performs at a high level, even if he has identified a few players who have gone on to play at the highest level.

He is now at a much lower level where you would think that would be better for his abilities, however the first two years are not good. Can he turn it around? Sure. But its now a different era and since that era has begun (NIL, transfers etc), he has not performed well (roughly the last 5-6 years). Its a little bit different in the Patriot League obviously. Compare that to Simpkins who has American at the top of the league within 2 years of him showing up.

All that is certainly true!
