I remember the Red Hot Chili Peppers were banned from the Patriot Center for wearing nothing but socks on their dingdongs.
Anyone remember when the Violent Femmes cussed out the audience and walked off stage? That was fun.
Jollay, I thought that was Spring of 98.
It seemed like it was a solid 14 hours or so.
So from what I have heard violent femmes played around 97 and the program board spent all the money getting them to play. A lot of the students didn't even know who they were and complained so the following year they spread the money out and put on what I think was the best Mason Day ever. 16 bands all day long. They had 2 stages with local bands playing inbetween the main stage acts. I can't remember all the bands but I believe it included Sev, Emmet Swimming, jimmies chicken shack, and the Roots with razel.
1999 was black eye peas
2000 was fighting gravity and Run DMC
2001 jimmies chicken shack and Xzibit
2002 common and Alana Davis
2003 I believe was Noreaga(complete bust I believe mason tried to get their money back when he showed up late and preformed for about 30 minutes and left.
2004 I think was Guster and they moved Mason day to the patriot center parking lot.
You are correct, sir. Violent Femmes was 97 and your narrative for Spring of 1998 is exactly how I remember it. The spreading of money and 2 stages was what I remember as well. I don't think any other year holds a candle to it.So from what I have heard violent femmes played around 97 and the program board spent all the money getting them to play. Haven't heard from Vurbel in a while. Is he still around?I'm sure Roots were '98. I think Run-DMC was 99. Somewhere in there were the Black Eyed Peas. Black Sheep were fall, 92. I can't keep Mason Day and Patriot Day straight, though.
I also remember sitting in the student government offices in Sub I drinking beer during one of the Mason Day parties. I think it was the '88 Mason Day.

Yes it was. We, the Kappa Sigma's, may they rest in peace for the next few years, did a whole island theme. We built cabanas for groups to use to sell stuff, and for the beer trucks, we built a whole pier like structure you had to walk across, including a pond below it, to get to the beer truck for your next beer.If I remember correctly, beer was sold on the Quad at Mason Day during my freshman year in '85. After that, it was sold in the Rat, but seemed to make it's way out to the festivities on the Quad.
Wow - Mason Day actually sounds like it was pretty legit back in the day. During my years, 09-13, it was a glorified carnival better suited for high schoolers than college students, let alone fraternities.Yes it was. After Mason Day, we took all the structures and set them up at the House for our annual South Pacific party at the end of the year.
What memories!
